Day 2 - still pain but manageable pain, can move around but very slowly and painfully, today i was able to have my first BM THANK GOD its not painful at all, cause i took ALOT of fiber and eat soft stuff and one thing no one in here has mention its good during this time is WATERMELON. omg that stuff is great. give you fiber and hydrate you. I hate drink water so i eat tons tons of watermelon.

After the BM it scare the sh!t out of me because I notice a big chunk that look like my Hemi so i quickly call my DR and he said its because its swollen and wait til everything heal then he will exam me again. phewwwww i was about to cry if its still there.
Anyway how you doing on your 7th day? hope all is well bro its great to be able to share this pain with others. thats all i can think for now. i will post more if any major changes.. goodluck too all

1 week post op surgery 8-| and I am on a roller coaster ride. Instead of good days and bad days, I have good hours and bad hours. I am totally afraid of the toliet, my 1st BM's wasnt that bad but the one yesterday, I can honestly say I almost blacked out, eyes rolled to the top of my head, cried, toes curled and major sweats. I was constipated and I had to take baby wipes and actually help myself, relieve myself manually. I have taken myself off of the perscribed painkillers and I am just using motrin b/c the pk'ers is constipating me even after ALL the stool softners and laxatives I was taking. The burning sensation comes and goes but when it comes it lasts for hours at a time. I have been having leakage (blood) and that is causing alot of burning as well. I was really hoping after 1wk I could give a good report to everyone b/c I am doing everything right.....BUT IT DON"T WORK LIKE DAT! Only time will heal a person after this surgery. So "time" if you can hear me....I'm waiting on you and 1wk later will meet you and I soon. I just hope that next week will be a better meeting for us. %-)

Here's my latest update. Just got typing a long one and when I went to post it said error and it was erased.

TOday is day 9 and the extreme pain has subsided. My BM have come with more frequency and are not real painful at all. I still use the TUcks pads and baby wipes. I'm not having the spasms with as much frequency as before but still have them. The Valium helped tremendously with that but now I only take it at night so I can sleep. I still take the Vicodin but not as much or as frequent.

Last night and the night before I sat out in the SPA for 30 minutes whcih felt great. Just too bad I couldn't enjoy a glass of wine or a beer...LOL.

I still have the burning pain but guess I'm just used to it at this point. I was actually able to walk across the street and BS with the neighbors since I havent left the house since the 13th.

I'm still doing the stool softner, FiberCon and MiraLax routine. Im sure it has helped with keeping everything moving and "relaxed". When I do go I don't take any newspapers, magazines or facebook. Just do the do get done and hop in the shower. I really try not to strain from now on and havent had to t be honest.

I have a follow-up appointment on the 24th withe the Doctor so well see how that goes. I'm supoed to go back to wirk either Wed or Thursday but to be honest not sure If il;l be 100% by then. And I don't want to go out there for 12 hours and have to run, jump, chase or get into an altercation when Im not 100% so maybe a few extra days.

It does get better, there is a light at the end of the tunnel...and no its not a train, although on day 2 or 3 I was hoping it was.

Until then all get better and ill keep ya updated when I can.

@ visaliaipa thanks for the update. I am on day 6 and I've learned what the word manageable means after this surgery. Manageable is a pretty word for its still painful as he^^ but the stinging doesnt last for 5 hours, it lasts about 20 minutes and the sitz baths actually help. Today is my 1st day of seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I had a soft BM and yes it did burn but as soon as I sat in a tub of hot water it stopped. I felt so good today I actually put clothes on and and in the process of combing my hair after 6 days of being a vegtable. At this very moment I can say I feel human again. But I wont get 2 happy, I know I need to continue the stool softners, eating right and ointments. Im just so glad my body didnt go into the shock o.O o.O o.O treatment position for 5 hours. I asked for my life back and slowly I am getting it back. :-D

:-D Day 7 and I can say I am at 75% right now. I can move around the house and I'm not in any acute pain. I feel human again for the 2nd day since my surgery. I did try to go to the store yesterday which was a mistake and I was moving to fast to soon. So this week although I'm in good spirits I will still move slowly and cautiously. My walk is strange and I am still having the buring after the BM's but it only last for a few minutes now THANK GOD! I see the light yes! yes! yes! Ladies/Gentz I know its rough but with time we will all heal. ;-)

I am having the traditional surgery next Monday and I am scared, scared, scared. This forum hasn't been all that encouraging but I'm gonna do it anyway. I am such a mess now that I'm hoping after the agony of recovering I will have a better quality of life. I'm tired of worrying about spending too much time on my feet or having to sit too long in one position in fear of getting a big huge throbbing knot...not to mention the what seems to be gallons of blood that pours out of me on a daily basis. I've suffered with this since giving birth 11 years ago and it has just gotten worse. I don't want to see what worse than this is, so here I go. I will come back and let you guys know how it goes for me. Thanks everyone for sharing!

I had my surgery to remove 3 internal and 3 external ones on Thu, 8/12. The recovery was far more difficult than I expected. I can say that I did have my doubts of having this surgery but after dealing with them for many years, I finally decided to go through with it and hopefully not have think about my rear end every day!! Like many others that have posted here, the first bm will be very painful. For me it was about 4 days after the surgery. I almost passed out but can honestly say that they are getting better every day. Just be prepared with the water for the sitz bath ready. I also have a paper cup by the toilet that I fill up with water to use right after the bm. It helps. I have also used an ice pack on the area every day...especially after a bm. Just watch that you drink a lot, take stool softeners and eat fiber. The most challenging part for me has been finding a good balance of how much is too much fiber, stool softeners, etc because diarhea is just as bad as constipation. Today I am at day 12 and at least I can sit up for awhile, can move around for a little while...however today just started to feel like I have another one down there (which I don't because I looked!) and also this terrible itch that I am attributing to healing but since I am not sure, I have an appointment with the surgeon on Friday. A final note...don't do this on your own. If your friends/family are able to help you, take them up on it. You will need all of the help you can get. My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier in the summer when my kids (12 and 9) could have helped me some...mostly in getting me drinks, food, etc...Now they are back to school so getting them around in the morning can be challenging some days! Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories!! I'm glad I found this site as I needed a sanity check because this surgery isn't something that is openly spoken about!

DAY 12- I just want to report this week was so beautiful. No pain just a little itching and itching is something I can handle. I have a check up on Monday but everything is going so smoothly. 2 weeks ago I couldnt imagine posting a good report but here I am :-D . I'm glad this is a chapter in my life I can look back on and have a few laughs. I say laughing b/c there was some funny, sticky and icky situations that I was in while healing from this surgery. To all be blessed and have a safe and great recovery. This website helped me through my recovery period more than the medicine, and that is the TRUTH. ;-)

I had my surgery on 09/30/10.
24 y/o, female. I'm young healthy and I stay active (yoga 5 days a week) and I'm a vegetarian. I eat normally, healthy during the week and indulge for cravings and weekends :-)

If you're having KILLING pains, make a call to your doctor. I live in NYC and had my procedure done at Mt. Sinai (#3 hospital in the US). The night I went home after my surgery, I thought I was going to DIE. made a crying call to my the hospital, they forwarded a page to my doctor and she called me less than a minute later. she talked me through my pain and helped me feel better. it's been especially rough for me because I live alone in a fast paced city. so I have no one to take care of me but a close friend that brings me groceries and helps run little errands for me.
Day 4 was the first day I had my first BM. passed 2 sizes of brussels sprouts. it was NO fun.
today, Day 5, had 2 normal BMs. the pain was bad, but I'm ok. I'm laying off my Percocet and just going to be sticking to tylenol xtra strength.
I've been eating small high fiber meals 2-3 times a day with a morning dose of Fiber Con and a full glass of Apple/Prune Juice.
I'll update again next week and the week 3 after my post-op check up with my doctor.
Good luck everyone!

I guess that I am one more to add to this discussion..lol...sadly enough, I went to the doc yesterday, found out that I have thrombosed (sp?) and they are external, I go tomorrow to have the surgery done, this will be my second time for this, my last time was 10 yrs ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd child.

#1-I remember having it when I was pregnant, but I do not remember it hurting this bad!!!
#2-I do not remember the post-surgery pain, I do not know if its possible to block it out or not!!

All i know is right now I am in complete misery, I tried going for a walk this morning, because I am dieting and exercising, and when I got on the scale yesterday, I didn't like what I saw. All I do know is that the walk this morning was one of the longest, shortest, and most painful walks in my lifetime!! I sat down afterward and wanted to cry it hurt so bad!!

Does recovery time take longer after your 2nd one? I can easily assume that with some of what I read, that everybody is different, but for some reason, I am so nervous this time, which is another aspect that I don't recall before!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks so much!!! :-)

I had surgery Aug 6th, 2010 and found a few things that might help others during recovery. For the record, there is absolutely no reason for the human body to register that level of pain. Anything but lying down was completely intolerable. The prescribed Lidocaine (2%) wasn't nearly up to the challenge (but still use it). The swelling and psychological effects wouldn't let me expel anything. After 30min, I passed an inch long stool. Standing up helped slightly, but ultimately this technique failed the following day. I filled the bin I used for sitz baths with the hottest tap water possible. It was probably 120F (absolutely nothing but the hottest tap). I submerged my bottom in the water (while protecting the male genitalia). Pain and relief are relative, but immediately the burning water numbed the region and the heat loosened the muscles. Do your best not to push. With relative easy (compared to the previous attempts) I expelled four days of waste. After every movement I rinsed the area and followed them up with a sitzbath in the tub. i was prescribed a painkiller, but whenever I felt the need to go, I took 600mg of Ibuprofen (compatible with my prescribed -- useless -- painkiller). It took about 15min-25min. to take effect. The painkiller didn't seem to make much difference, but combined with the Ibuprofen they did the trick. Also, I found that prolific swearing proved very helpful. Perhaps humorous, but all true. Best of luck, Patrick.
