I have been diagnosed with uterine prolapse. I have had two medical examinations by two different doctors. Both agree that I need a vaginal hysterectomy to correct the uterine prolapse problem. My vagina is almost fully prolapsed. One of the doctors diagnosed me with cystocele and both doctors agree that that needs to be repaired. One of the doctors diagnosed me with a small rectocele and wants to include repair of that during my hysterectomy. The other doctors does not feel that I need rectocele surgery. He said since I have not had any symptoms there is no reason for the surgery and it is very painful. Also, one of the doctors recommends removing both of my ovaries. The other feels I should keep my ovaries. I had a biopsy and was diagnosed with endrometrial hyperplasia with no cancer cells. I had breast cancer last year. I would like to find out more about the rectocele operation and some information to help me make a decision on whether or not to have this surgery. Could you give me some pros and cons concerning this? Thank you.

I have a rectocele and have been bothered with it for about 2 years. I was fitted with a gelhorn pessary that eliminates the pressure and bulging from the vagina. I've heard of so many that have the surgery and again in 3 to 5 years have to have it again. My Dr. suggested I try this and it works for me.
