Hi, I had total hysterectomy two months ago when I was diagnosed with uterine prolapse. Since then me and my husband haven't had any sex. Last night we decided to try. Very quickly we stopped because it was too painful for me. And this morning, when I went to the bathroom I saw some pinkish vaginal discharge on my panties. Please tell me what could be the reason for this reaction?

Hello, what you are experiencing is very common to hysterectomy patients and is called vaginal atrophy. This is an inflammation process that takes place in your vagina because of the remarkable decrease of the sexual hormone estrogen. Estrogen is produced in ovaries and since yours have been removed along with the uterus the reason for this decrease in your case is obvious. As a result vaginal tissue becomes thin and dry. That is why sexual intercourse was painful. And the pink vaginal discharge is actually a sign of light bleeding after intercourse. You should talk to your doctor about estrogen therapy which will certainly help you.
