Hi, I've had recurring chest infections for the past 3 years. I therefore get it atleast 4 times a year. Latley it seems to have got worse as I had it at the beginning of December 2006. I was given a course of Amoxicillin and it seemed to reduce the cough, however I have just got it again and am extremley worried that there is something very wrong as I seem to spend more of my waking life being ill than healthy. I am now on another course of Amoxicillin. My GP is very forgetful as I've been to him approximatley 6 times in the last year and he has not once suggested I take any tests. I have an appointment for a second opinion next week at the same surgery. What could the under lying problem be? Thanks in advance

Hello there becboo,

Unfortunately it is very hard to say unless you do additional tests. There are several of COPD conditions which have absolutely same symptoms as you are describing. Most of these conditions is treated with antibiotics such as Amoxicillin but in some cases it is necessary to take them for about 6 to 8 months to get fully recovered or the infection is coming back again.

So maybe your doctor had the best intentions but without proper diagnosis it is very hard to treat the condition. I hope that the second opinion is going to let you know what is going on and how are you going to deal with this problem. Keep us posted and I hope you will recover.
