I have heard that some women are quite sensitive to oral sex... to the point that feeling the top of their partner's tongue on their clit can be rough... to the point of irritation.
As for other side effects, there shouldn't be any. Perhaps the feel of saliva on the sex organs is less slick than natural lube? You could try a wet water-based lube, and see if that in addition to oral sex doesn't bother you as much.
