I ran into a mom of a boy who used to go to school with my daughter, 20 years ago, and we ended up chatting for a bit. I was saddened and shocked to find out that this boy, who used to play with my daughter all the time, was diagnosed with schizophrenia, in and out of mental institutions, and on risperidone. This sounds like a tough med to be taking as well. What are the side effects of risperidone?

Life can take funny turns sometimes. Mental illness is a lot more common than most people think though, perhaps because it is still very much a taboo subject and something that many people tend to hide from others. With risperidone, there are so many potential side effects that it would scare even doctors, if they didn't know that most people don't get all of the side effects. Ironically, severe anxiety issues are often related to risperidone. I don't know what is worse, schizophrenia or terrible anxiety! High blood pressure, or the opposite, low blood pressure, changes in libido, muscle pain and insomnia are also some of the more frequently found side effects of risperidone.
