I too am having the same issue. I came home from deployment with a terrible breathing issue. The doctor gave me Montelukast (generic Singulair) in May. Flash forward to January, i've gained 32lbs and failed my fitness test for the first time in four years!!! This is people's lives and careers on the line and its just down right unfair to be given something that screws people up so badly.

Me too!! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what has cause me to gain 7 lbs since I started taking it. Same thing, I work out hard, watch what I eat, etc.

I have been on Singulair for three weeks now as a result of constant sinus infections. I haven't changed my diet and started skiing again, so I am actually outside and exercising more. I have noted each week my weight creeps up a pound here and there and my pants are a little tighter than they usually have been and I feel bloated. Really no explanation other than this "new" medication I started taking, so I can't help but wonder?

In August I stopped taking some PCOS meds and gained about 10 pounds. My doctor said that could be because one of those pills was a water pill and this could be normal water weight. In October I started taking singulair because of allergies (prescribed by an allergist, not my doctor). It's now January and I have gained a total of 22 pounds. I was blaming it on the PCOS meds, but now I wonder if it's the Singulair. Another side effect I had of Singulair was drowsiness. My allergist said that's not right and it's the only allergy (or asthma?) medicine allowed for pilots since they can't take drowsy-inducing meds, but I said it's true. He probably won't believe me about the weight gain either. But I'm going to stop taking it and see what happens. Thank you all for posting your stories. It really helped open my eyes that it could be this medicine even though it's not a listed side effect. I'll try to remember to come back and update this in a few months or when I see a change.

Wow, I was right all along. I have been on Singulair for almost a year and have gained so much weight I can barely move. It's all around my belly. I now weigh more than I did when I gave birth to my kids. I asked my PCP if Singulair could be the cause and she said absolutely not. Oh, and now I'm feeling really depressed. Is that fron the drug or the weight gain...or does it even matter at this point!

It's likely from the drug. I gained 25 pounds on it--almost all in my belly and butt--and I finally realized it was the cause. I have been off of it for 8 months now. I lost all the weight and didn't change anything else. Good luck!

I've been on Singular for less than one month and I've gained five pounds! I laugh because my diet has not changed one iota. I am a healthy eater and a vegetarian ! I can't stand this and knew it had to be the medicine. So happy I'm not going crazy!

I am so happy to see these post. I'm a health 39 year old who is on a strict diet and exercise program to tone up. I do this every year around this time. Usually it takes about 4-8 wks to be in good athletic shape. I started taking Singulair about 6 and 1/2 weeks ago and when at this time any other year I would be in my best shape, this year I have hardly progressed. It struck me after getting on the scale and gaining 4lbs that it could be Singulair, it was the only thing that changed. So thank you for this forum and good luck. I'm going off of it as of now.

I have been on singulair/montelukast for about 3 weeks now. I started dieting and only eating carbs once a day for about 10 days, even tried raspberry ketones to help speed up my metabolism. No luck and all I am I bloated around my stomach area and thighs. My wife thought I was crazy and this forum made feel 1000 times better that it wasn't only me. I also seem to have blood in my stool for the past 4-5 days and went through a few nights of night mare. I plan on contacting my pulmonologist tomorrow for a new remedy.

It's all about histamine. Taking antihistamines blocks the receptors from the histamine....bUT it doesn't make them go away. Just like any other drug...your body becomes resistant. You are producing more histamine now. The only way to go back to normal is to wait. I took zyrtecare for8 months. It took 7-9 months to regulate. I was very bloated. Bloating is a symptom of having too much histamine.

I have been on singulair almost two weeks and have gained about two pounds. I was wondering what in the world is going on. It has to be the singulair. I'm taking it mainly for allergies as I'm not asthmatic. No more. I'm only going to take Claritin and use Flonase. I've used those for years and have gotten through allergy season in the past. I can't see any difference since using the singulair. I will be informing my ENT when I see her in a few months.

I started Singulair last October 2015. Brilliant drug but my weight loss ground to a halt....even with good eating habits, cycling and cross country skiing. Feeling very miserable about my weight. I am also on Breo Ellipta which is my miracle drug so I'm going to come off Singulair and see if the Breo holds my asthma in check. Breo is amazing for anyone looking for a better inhaler.

Try Breo Ellipta. New asthma drug that is brilliant. Going to come of Singulair to see if the Breo holds my asthma in check. Have been working SOoooooo hard to loose weight. I wondered some time ago if it was the Singulair then put it out of my mind. I also thought the weight gain might be my age....49..... But now I know!
