Thank you to ALL of you. You've helped me resolve an anguishing problem. I too have allergies and asthma. Things got worse and I went on singulair. But at the same time, I gained 15 pounds. The bloating got so bad that I went to the doctor. I referred to a couple of tests (pelvic ultra sound and colonoscopy) and nothing was found. Meanwhile I am exercising a lot just to maintain my weight. (Swimming 2 miles a week, hiking, lifting weights.) I was SO frustrated till now. Again, thank you. I'm making an appointment to get me off this medication.

I've also been on Singulair for 3 months now and it made wonders for my asthma and allergies. But I have gained 20 pounds in just 1,5 months. I struggled to loose them (and I have never had before any problems in maintining my weight). It took a hard diet and lots of exercise. And now, even if I eat about 1600 calories/day (compared to about 2500 wich I used to) and I exercsise A LOT daily, I keep putting on weight at an allarming rate, especially around my stomach and back. I will quit Singulair today and go back to my older asthma regular inhaler (wich was supposed to be replaced by Singulair). Good luck to all of you who have had the same problems and thank you for making me realize wich was the cause.

Same here. I have been thin all my life and eat a healthy diet. Started taking Zyrtec and Singular a few months ago. Gained a little extra weight, and feel swollen/bloated around the belly. Went off the meds last week and already getting back to my natural body.

Hello folks. I was taking Singular for over a year. I have continued to gain weight. When I asked if this was a side effect of course as you all know - the answer was NO. I have been on a strict protein diet. I was crying about my weight and how NOTHING seemed to work. I am in menopause and I know this can have a bearing but I was able to lose weight prior to this medication.
Although the docs say NO about the weight gain I COMPLETELY DISAGREE. I have been off the meds for 4 days now and am down 3 or 4lbs. I feel better - my stomach isn't as bloated .... there is some truth to what we are saying if not this weight that I have been struggling to lose FOREVER would not start falling away once I got off the med. Just my thoughts

While I am not relieved by any means that any of you had to suffer these awful symptoms, I AM RELIEVED to know that my daughter is not alone.
She plays comp softball and she excercises 3 -4 hours 5x per week and on tournamnet weekends will play as many as 8 games. She has been steadily gaining weight by 1-2 lbs per month, however at the last check it had gone up even more, almost 5 lbs (Singulair was added about one month ago). I too was put off by the suggestion of a nutritionist and hints of lack of parenting because we eat very lean protein and lots of veggies, sweets are once a week at best and no soda or sugar drinks are allowed.
I have read a few post now that Singulair and Benedryl have this response but that Claritin is okay. Any experiences with Claritin? She uses ProAir as the rescue inhaler, which we have been able to cut back on in the past few months.
