Wow....I have been on singulair since January and I am having the same problem with my weight. I am going to get off of it to see what happens. I have allergies and possible asthma, so I have been taking it to see singulair helps....but I certainly don't like this added weight.

I decided to look up Singulair and weight gain because I recently went back on it. I was on Singulair for a few years and during that time went from 115 to 134 pounds. Couldn't loose weight if my life depended on it. Went off Singulair 2 years ago and slowly my weight went back down and ended up at 107 pounds. About a month ago I had my first asthma attack in 2-3 years and was put back on Singulair. In the last 4 weeks nothing has changed and I've gained 5 pounds. People have been commenting on my face looking "full". I suspect Singulair is the culprit. Will be going back off before my weight keeps creeping up.

I have gained weight also. I'm on 3 medicines for asthma and all have the side effects of gained weight. I hate it but I have to breathe. I have gained about 50 lbs in 10 years.

I am 53 and was prescribed Singulair for asthma. I liked it at first and really had no breathing issues. I started to feel very tired and I noticed my belly was distended even though I work out daily. I stopped for about a week and felt much better. Lost two pounds. I decided to use it again because my wheezing was becoming a problem. Within two days of starting up the pills I gained the weight back. I mentioned this to my doctor and she said there is no mention of weight gain on this drug. Well, I definitely won't be using it anymore. I'd rather wheeze then be tummy fat! Guess its back to my rescue inhaler.

I too have gained 15 pounds since taking this medication and couldn't figure out why. I'm so happy I found this page! This is the only medication I take daily so it has to be the cause. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Wow I'm so happy I found this thread. About two weeks ago, I met with an allergy specialist who prescribed azelastine antihistamine nasal spray (non-steroid), singulair, and allegra for my allergies. At that time, I weighed about 117lbs. I have been taking all three meds as prescribed and my weight is now at 124lbs. I noticed my appetite has increased and have been eating a lot.
Also I noticed I've gained weight around my face, upper arms, belly, and thighs. Prior to all of this I was taking benadryl and never had a weight problem. I am to return in three weeks to follow up on the effectiveness of the medication. I am going to tell the doctor about the weight gain. I think I will just stop all the meds altogether and go back to benadryl. I want to get this weight off!

I promise it's the Singulair! I have been off of it for 3 months, now. I haven't made any other lifestyle changes, and I have almost lost the 30 I put on. Doctor's say what they are told, but clearly Singulair causes weight gain.

There is NO WAY you can lose weight on Singulair! You must work for the company! I am a ballet teacher and have been thin my whole life. I started taking Singulair and within 4 months had gained 10 pounds! It causes back fat and abdominal fat!!!!!!!!!!

I am a physician, have had asthma for years, and have gained 5-10 pounds every time I've taken singulair for any length of time.Look at all these anecdotal reports! It may not be a common side effect, but there can be no question there is an association...

This forum is awesome. Like most of you, I consider myself a healthy person. I exercise daily and eat healthy. I was prescribed
Singular in June because of my allergies and since then I have gained weight (especially around my stomach) and I couldn't figure out why. I eliminated many things from my diet and increased my exercise and I still continued to gain. My biyfriend pointed out that I started gaining weight when i started taking Singular. I stopped taking the pill about a week ago and I'm already done 5lbs. No more for me. I'm going to look for a natural alternative
