I have been on Montalukast for 18 months and have gained 16lb, I don't seem to be able to keep the weight off.  When I mensioned to my consultant I was told weight gain was not a side effect. I have not changed anything else, however my asthma has really improved.  I am finding the weight gain is really getting me down.

I wondered why I have picked up about 5-6 pounds in 7 weeks! And the anxiety is exhausting. Thought I was going crazy. Thanks for your information. I think I will be getting off of this med.

After reading all the posts, my suspicions have been confirmed.  I started on Pulmicort and Singulair about 6 months ago and noticed that my clothes were getting tighter and my midsection was getting bigger.  I work out at least 3 times a week using the treadmill, bike and elliptical machine plus 8 or 9 weight machines.  I have not changed my eating habits and cannot get the weight off.  This is very discouraging and now what is the solution for the asthma symptoms.  I don't see my Pulmonologist until July, but I am seriously considering getting off the meds

I've noticed more than usual agitation, as well as, weight gain. I kind of did what I like to call a med- rec (reconciling changes in weight to changes in meds), and agree with everyone here regarding weight gain. I like most, have not changed eating habits, exercise regularly and recently started taking Singular 1xd in the last year. Out of nowhere, I have put on close to 10 pounds. Starting right now, I'm calling it quits on Singular. Additionally, Singular along with Advair, albuterol and flonase is too many meds. Specifically, when flonase is reported to treat symptoms of all mast cell chemicals.

I have had asthma since I was a little girl. I have been on Advair for years and never had an issue with weight. I have started Singulair and in a few months have gained 15 LBS!!!! I was 125 got on the scale and was a whopping 140!  I work out 5-6 days a week and track all my calories! I spoke with my Pulmonologist and he said this is not listed at one of the side effects but after reading all these posts I made an appointment and I am bringing in copies of theses posts with me to my appointment this Friday. I am so frustrated!  I eat the same and have noticed that every time I'm on the scale the numbers keep creeping up! It's so frustrating that I want to cry!  I have cried! I am also having the weird dreams etc feeling depressed and a little nasty bad temper! I have to get off this Singulair it has helped me with my breathing but the weight gain and other issues not worth it. I need to be on something else asap!

Thanks good luck to you all.

As most of you, I have been on Singulair generic for about a year.  Over this year, I have gained almost 30 pounds.  My stomach looks like I am about three months pregnant, but I definitely am not.  I run, walk, and take barre classes every week.  That puts me around 5-8 hours of intense workouts each week.  I also eat very cleanly/healthily.  I have been so frustrated with the weight gain because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Last night, I had a breakdown because the body I see in pictures does not fit what I've always looked like.  I started realizing that the only health-change I've made has been Singulair.  Today is my first day off of the medication.  I hope that my body will regulate quickly, but I want to know how those of you who went off are doing with your weight loss.  Are you finding that the weight is dropping fairly quickly since being off?

I've been taking singulair for about 4 years. I CANNOT lose weight. I'm about 8 stone overweight, no matter what I do I cannot lose more than a lb or two. I've tried counting calories and eating 1200 per day and I've even tried a VLCD which is 600 per day both for a week each time and lost nothing. The doctor gave me Orlistat...I lost nothing. I'm vegetarian, cook everything from scratch, cut out junk food/fried/bread/processed completely and the weight doesn't budge. I also have very bad anxiety, bad stomach pain and bloating. I'm going to see my doctor this afternoon to see if there is an alternative. I have asthma and also take Seretide and Salbutamol. I feel like the doctors think I'm lying when I tell them dieting isn't working...I KNOW my OWN body!! So relieved to have found this information!

I have been on singular for 3 months and I have gained 10 lbs . I keep track of my calorie intake daily and exercise 3 times per week . I have been using My Fitness Pal since 2011, and I have lost 40 lbs. My eating habits have not changed and the only new medication I have been taking was Singulair. I have experienced more weight gain in the abdomen with a lot of bloating also . Since I don't take it for asthma, only seasonal allergies, I am going to try to taper off of this. I'm also scheduled for a yearly physical in July to rule out other things.

I began taking singulair about 4 years ago for asthma, and was using an albuteral rescue inhaler to control my symptoms.. .over time I began going through the albuteral inhalers so quickly that my pharmacist thought I was having inhaler parties!! i.e the singlair made my asthma much worse. I did NOT want a steroid inhaler, but was told it was the best way to manage my symptoms. Went on a steorid inhaler a year ago along with singular--I almost never used the rescue inhaler. .....BUT I've gained 40 pounds, went from pre diabetic to diabetes II diagnosis, and have mood issues. I could breathe great,---but the rest of me was falling apart. Was never made aware weight gain was a side effect of singulair, and was told steroid inhalers aren't like taking prednisone. ..WRONG. . . My doc would say "i wish there was something I could do for you . . . . ." I became more physically active, cycling, rigourous workouts.. still no weight loss!!! I finally said ENOUGH--stopped the singulair (taking OTC claritin for allergy trigger) and cut back on the dosage of the steroid inhale. Im still monitoring my breathing with this change, but hope that as the weight goes, i will regain control over my blood sugar and won't need to take all these meds to treat the side effects caused by other meds.

Been on prednisone for 15 years I don't care if you eat only lettuce everyday you will gain weight. And you will swell. Weather it's water retention, food, what ever your weight will increase. And the medicine is the cause.

I to have been on Singulair for over a year. At first I thought my weight gain was because of my nose spray qNasl..I stopped taking it a few months ago but still am gaining. I just had my check up this week and mentioned the weight gain and she said it wasn't possible..it was my age and eating habits..I am feeling pretty low until I read these..as of tomorrow I am going to stop and see how it goes.. :)
