Hello, Bianca.

What you're describing sounds like cervical mucus mixed with menstrual blood, which can sometimes happen at the start or end of a period. The pinkish-red color is likely due to the combination of blood with the mucus. Here are a few things to consider:

1. Cervical Mucus: The consistency and amount of cervical mucus can vary throughout the menstrual cycle. Around the time of ovulation, for instance, you might notice a stretchier, egg-white consistency. It's possible for menstrual blood to mix with this type of mucus, leading to a "snotty" appearance.

2. Pregnancy Symptoms: Many symptoms associated with early pregnancy, such as breast tenderness, fatigue, and mood swings, can also be symptoms of an impending period. They're caused by hormonal fluctuations in the body. It's not uncommon for women to feel like they're experiencing pregnancy symptoms when their period is about to start.

3. Period Variation: Menstrual cycles can vary for a multitude of reasons, including stress, changes in weight, medications, illnesses, and other factors. Being a week late is not uncommon and can happen for reasons other than pregnancy.

4. Accuracy of Pregnancy Tests: Home pregnancy tests are generally quite accurate when taken after the first missed period. However, it's crucial to follow the instructions carefully and consider factors that could affect the result, like the time of day or how diluted your urine might be. If you have concerns, you might want to retest or consult a healthcare professional.

Do you have any other symptoms? Or have you ever had any unusual things alongside your period?
