I have spondylolisthesis of L4 on S1 grade 1. I’ve got 2 steroid epidurals helped the back, leg and foot pain very much, but due to increasing weakness and muscle atrophy of my left leg and numbness of the lateral part of my left foot, I opted for surgery 3 weeks ago. I had decompression of L4 and S1 nerve roots and fusion of L4 and S1 and I was given no guarantee on the numbness. What is your experience with numbness being corrected with surgery? How long would you expect it to take?

My husband is a doctor so, I asked him about your problem. I have similar on ob L5. He said that the numbness from a condition such as spondylolisthesis is the first thing to start and the last thing to go away. The numbness can take up to a year to get better or longer. Most times it improves or goes away, but if you had a lot of nerve damage, I would probably expect that you would have some residual numbness. The bottom line is you won't know what you have until the nerve is done healing, but this takes at least a year. So, if the numbness is still there at a year, then unfortunately the numbness is probably permanent.

Hi I have same condition and was curious if surgery helped the pain if you experienced pain? I have experienced about 9-10 in rare spirts but at least a constant 4-5 on the pain scale...1---10 and only some nerve stuff I am considering surgery! My surgeon told me theres a possibility they could damage the nerves in the prosess of surgery, just curious if you have healed yet?
Thanks
