Spotting and Confusion! Help.

So, I had my last period Sept 25th (which seemed to be a couple of days early to me). I was expecting my next one on Oct 23-24, but still hasn't begun yet. I have, however, been experiencing very light brownish/light, light pink spotting instead. It isn't even getting on my liner, which is why I believe that its not my period (which usually starts out very, very heavy and red). My husband and I have been hoping to conceive and tried on the 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th (and practically every other odd numbered day in the month just to be cautious). My hpt is still neg, but my B/F said she didn't test positive for 10 weeks-even with a blood test-after experiencing the same thing I am. Any stories/insight/advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm 23 and this is my first experience with trying to conceive. My husband, 28, is very hopeful and is crossing his fingers but we're trying to keep our heads about us so that we're not too let down if I get my period here in a few days. I'm scheduling a Dr. appointment for next week just to give my body some time before hand.
