Morning all, I would appreciate some advice. A couple of months ago I started to get a dull ache/heavy sensation in my left testicle. I checked myself out for lumps and couldn't find anything but got a Dr's appointment anyway. He examined me and advised that there was nothing untoward going on, he couldn't find any lumps etc but thought the epididymis was slightly swollen. He gave me a 7 day prescription for Doxycycline and within a couple of days the symptoms had gone. Fast forward a couple of months and I started to get very similar sensations in the same testicle. Thinking the swelling had returned and that I'd need more Doxycycline I went back to see the Dr. He again examined me and asked lots of questions about whether I was a frequent cycler (which I am - every work day) and advised that I go and get an ultrasound. I asked him if he had found anything I should be concerned and he indicated there wasn't. Would he send me for an ultrasound if he just suspected epididymitis? I've checked myself over and I can't find any lumps other than the one epididymis feels slightly fleshier than on the right hand side. I have to wait 4 weeks for my ultrasound and it is causing me a (very probably) unncessary amount of anxiety. One of my best friends has recently been diagnosed with TC (has now got the all clear -thank God) but it is really playing on my mind. Should I be overly worried or is an ultrasound standard procedure?

An ultra sound is not standard procedure, but this is your SECOND visit with this complaint, and so, it is a logical and expected step to take.

The fact that you are a frequent cycler, and that your doctor tumbled to this makes me think that he's got a theory as to why this is happening to you, but I wouldn't want to second guess him.

I wouldn't fret about testicular cancer at this point.  Let your doctor lead and advise you.
