I would recommend an attorney that deals with personal injury . if you had surgery that caused any damage, then find an attorney that does malpractice lawsuits.

Because I ended up with stasis..(brown freckling) which they say is caused by poor circulation in the leg and i am wondering if the synvisc may have blocked arteries or something to cause this and if anyone else had experienced this too.

Good evening, my name is Daphne, I spoke to a couple of lawyers about a lawsuit to the manufacturer's of synvisc. They told me that I have to go to another orthopedic surgeon to get a second opion to exactly what is wring with my knee. At first they told me to get a copy of the date of the injection, which I did, and I also got the lot number of the synvisc they used on me. When I called the lawyer back, I left a message, he never returned my call. I called another attorney, before speaking to an attorney, I had to speak with this woman first, that is when she told me that I have to go to another orthopedic surgeon, or orthopedic dr. to get a second opinion. They didn't feel that my complaints were good enough, they want an mri done. Since I have permanent nerve damage, swelling and constant pain, I think that is enough. Also there is no way that I will ever be as active as I was before this injection. This is my contact information if you can help me out with any information you have from your attorney, I would appreciate it so very much. Thanks for taking the time to read what I did write. Daphne

Hello all.

I have read with interest and sorrow, the stories about your synvisc reactions.  I have summarized my own below as well.

I have had one full course of three injections into the left knee about a year and a half prior and started a second course in January 2011 about 6-7 weeks after my second arthroscopic surgery (Dec 2010), to address meniscus tears.  After about 30 hours after the first shot (second course), my knee started to hurt.  The intensity of the pain rapidly increased and after contact with my OS, I was told to go to the ER if it worsened.  The pain was terrible. . . as in screaming bad and I could not walk.  I had to call the Paramedics to transport me to the ER, where they pulled fluid out to test.  It came back negative, but I was hospitalized for 2 - 3 days pain management and several fluid removals.  The pain continued and I went back to my OS, who pulled off more fluid that visibly showed infection, which was confirmed.

I was admitted and had emergency surgery within two hours to remove the infection and clean up any damaged tissue.  Of course I was re-admitted, started on IV antibiotics and pain meds as I was in intense pain (a "ten").  I could not walk and was hospitalized another six days.  I had to have a PIC line put in for the IV antibiotic treatment.  I developed a DVT  below my left knee which  then required blood thinners (coumadine) treatment.  Once discharged, I had visiting nursing, frequent clotting tests, but still developed two more DVT's and was re-hospitalized  with worsening pain and swelling of my left knee and septic arthritis.  The blood thinner was stopped as it was causing too much bleeding in my knee and had a Trap-ease Filter implanted in my inferior vena cava to prevent clots going to my lungs.  I got quite depressed with the chronic severe pain.

All in all I was hospitalized about 21 days, was on IV antibiotics about 9 weeks, oral for weeks longer and felt seriously ill for about 2 1/2 months.  I was told my knee was further damaged by the infection and septic arthritis and that I would most likely need a knee replacement.  Of course, surgery was out for a good year since I had the infection.  Meanwhile, I could only walk assisted with a walker and eventually a cane, but not before I developed a totally numb right hand, diagnosed as carpal tunnel.  In addition, the hand strain also caused damaged my basal thumb joint in the left hand.  Shortly afterwards, I had surgery on the right hand to release the carpal tunnel nerve and the next month,  had my left basal thumb joint rebuilt with a tendon self donated from my left forearm.  PT of course followed all.

Off and on I think about trying to sue somebody but who.  Anyway nobody could give me back the time and  take away the suffering I experienced.  I also lost my job at a state university.  I guess I don't see great benefit in suing and don't trust I would anyway.

However, I don't want others to suffer the way I have with the synvisc.  I have had significant pain and restricted movement every day since while I have waited to address my knee damage.  I am now scheduled to have my left knee replaced in a month.

I am very interested in what you all will be doing to address these problems.  My best to all of you.

I have rec injections several times over the past 5 years but this past series was the last. I had taken one in each knee the week before but with the second series something went wrong. It was the Thursday before Christmas 2013. I spent Friday,Sat and Sunday in the hospital. The left knee injection was normal. The right knee doubled in size. Within 5 hours I could not walk. After having my right knee aspirated the doc sent me straight to the hospital and performed emergency knee surgery. He said my white cell count was thru the roof. I have the batch numbers and it has to be an issue with processing. Like I said, no issue w the left knee.  I too have wondered about a lawsuit as I spent 17k with surgery , doc and hospital.

I won't take another injection...

P.S I noticed several folks had issues at the end of 2013. Coincidence ?

My husband had the injection 2 years ago and he had a bad allergic reaction. He was in the hospital and could not move. He ended up with shingles from all the predizone that was given to him so he could move. He now how rheumatioid arthritis and he was told it was from the shot. The reaction started as soon as he had the shot. I had spoke to one attorney but he said there was no class action suits. We would be interested if you are filing a class action suit.

Had shot in 2010, most painful thing I've ever gone through and the pain has never gone away. So frustrated with doctors that I have just quit and accepted the pain as part of my life. My doctor had me start doing weight bearing exercises the very next day which I did until my knee made a huge popping sound on the second day and locked up. Did anyone else start exercising that soon? Yes I also thought about talking with an attorney but I'm an overweight female now, who can exercise when you don't get a full nights sleep and you get all the time.

Hi,

Wondering how this is going. I had synvisc for knee chondramalacia in May 2013 and much worse now. Dr. Galea has been no help at all. How is your law suit going?

I had the injections the first time 3 years ago. It worked very well and had a second round 2 years ago. So my orth said we should go again only this time, after the first shot my knee is swollen cant bend it and the pain is very severe like a burning pain on the side and in my thigh and shin. Don't know why docot was called may have to drain the knee.
