Hi,

I woke up this morning with a distinct pain in my right Testicle, as well as pain in my lower abdomen. Since it has persisted for a few hours, I did a bit of research, and the closest condition that my symptoms match is Testicular Torsion. Some key symptoms I do not have, however, are vomiting and swelling (at least not at a noticeable level). I am also confused by the term "Severe" in regards to the level of pain, as "Severe Pain" was listed as a major symptom. As I see it, we all have different pain thresholds, so what may be severe to one person, may just be an ache to another. The pain I am experiencing is certainly makes itself known, and is far from comfortable, but I classify severe pain with that of breaking a bone or something similar. I was concerned when I read that this needs to be treated swiftly, but I haven't been able to convince myself that this is the issue. Thank you in advance for any help or insight.

Silent,

You are very correct, we all interpret pain differently. Testicular torsion is usually characterized by an "excruciating" pain since the testicle is dying from lack of blood flow. I would agree with your interpretation as that of breaking a bone, or maybe a kidney stone too.

Did you experience any recent trauma?

There are other conditions that can cause testicular pain including epididymitis.

If the pain continues or you notice any other symptoms please get it checked out.

Thank you very much for your reply. The pain I experienced was not quite agonizing, but was certainly making me not want to move much. I suffer from migraines, and I would equate the feeling to that of an especially bad migraine, but in another region of course. I have not had any trauma, so that was ruled out immediately. I checked into the symptoms of Epididymitis, but that does not seem to be what it is, as I see no inflammation and get no pain when urinating. I did notice that the testicle causing the pain is slightly higher than the other, which is also a symptom of torsion, but to be entirely honest I can't even say if that is normal for me or not. I took some Ibuprofen and it has significantly lessened the pain. There is still no swelling to speak of, and if I was suffering from torsion, given the duration of the discomfort, I assume I would have seen some drastic swelling and/or discoloration by now. I am a bit perplexed as to what could be causing this. Are swelling / vomiting necessary symptoms of torsion, or are they simply possibly symptoms (since I am not experiencing either)? Sorry for all of the questions. Hope to hear from you soon!

I tend to agree that the symptoms would be getting worse rather than better is it is truly testicular torsion. Not everyone develops the same symptoms either. Just because you exclude one or two does not eliminate the possibility.

There is a non-invasive test to check for torsion using ultrasound. It is fairly quick. It checks for blood flow.

Since this continues to worry you, you should see your doctor about it. If it seems to be getting worse then a visit to the ER is not out of the question. Testicular torsion is a true medical emergency.

Keep it posted.

Hi,

Just wanted to post again with how it has been going. The pain lessened, but continued for a day or so, but has now subsided, so hopefully whatever it was resolved itself. I did see reports saying not to forget about it if the pain goes away, since if it was torsion and simply corrected itself, it can easily happen again. I will keep a close watch on the situation and certainly post back if it acts up again. Thank you very much for your tips and advice. They are very much appreciated!

How long it takes for a wound to heal after testicular torsion surgery? Can you speed up the process?
