O.K...HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.
I am a 57 year old male who has had surgery previously for anal fissures, fistula, circumcision , spinal fusion and knee surgery. No stranger to post-operative pain then!
I had a THD procedure 3 days ago and discharged same day. This is a minimally invasive procedure so I EXPECTED MINIMAL PAIN POST-OP.Big mistake. Within 1 hour of arriving home, I felt the need to have a bowel motion. However,my anus was non compliant and it took 4 hours of excruciating pain before bm happened.I was reduced to tears.Went online out of sheer desperation and read helpful posts about sitting in hot baths, putting dignity to one side and pooing in baths, bidets etc.
I have used suppositories ,ointment(proctosedyl) and GTN cream, basically anything to reduce the anal swelling and muscle spasm. I have taken analgesics and non- steroidal anti-inflammatory meds. One of the most relevant measures is LIE DOWN . Standing only serves to increase the pressure in your anal musculature. ( Yes, get up for drinks, tea, coffee etc every hour or two as some movement is beneficial to healing).
It is pleasant to read for some people that this procedure caused them minimal pain. However not all THD procedures are the same e.g., 12 sutures in the rectum is not the same as 2!
Hope this helps!
