My 84 year old dad has had these episodes for the last 9 years; approximately 2 occurrences a year and like all on this blog the doctors can't find anything wrong after multiple blood tests and scans.

My dad's symptoms in order were: a slight headache at the base of  his skull, ACUTE  pain in the abdomen, dizziness but sometimes faints, vomiting then diarrhea (and apparently low blood pressure) After that he feels fine,  just a little weak!

His last episode landed him in the emergency room because he passed out and hit his head. The emergency room physician (very caring and smart doctor who TOOK THE TIME TO LISTEN TO US) said that he was experiencing what is called Vasovagal Syncope  or Vagal Reaction.

I hope that this information can help someone, BUT please consult your physician, don't self diagnose!

Blessings!

Hello, Trishao.

Besides the reason you mentioned, the combination of symptoms you have described could be indicative of several potential medical conditions:

  • Meningitis: A headache at the base of the skull, dizziness, and fainting could be signs of meningitis, which is an inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. Other symptoms may include fever, sensitivity to light, and neck stiffness.

  • Appendicitis: Acute pain in the abdomen, vomiting, and diarrhea could be symptoms of appendicitis, which is an inflammation of the appendix. The pain typically starts near the belly button and then moves to the lower right side of the abdomen.

  • Gastroenteritis: Vomiting and diarrhea are common symptoms of gastroenteritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. This condition is often caused by a viral or bacterial infection and can lead to dehydration.

  • Dehydration: Low blood pressure, dizziness, and fainting can all be symptoms of dehydration. This can occur when the body loses more fluids than it takes in, such as during vomiting and diarrhea.

I am writing this for other people, if they are seeking something else as the cause of their symptoms.
