I hope this thread still has some life in it. I've read the first page or so and have lots of reading yet to do. It was very recently discovered that the reason for my breathing difficulties is a left hemi paralysis of my diaphragm. This has been brewing a long time and probably stems from surgery I had after an auto accident in which they collapsed my left lung to gail access to a torn aorta. I barely lived through that one!
So now, at age 66 I can barely walk a city block without extreme SOB. I have an oximeter and my O2 gets down to the lower 80s with minimal exercise. Obviously this severely limits my activity. I am overweight which is a contra-indication to plication surgery. So that's what I'm currently focussed on. That plus improving my conditioning to minimize the effects of this debilitating affliction.
People on the forum talk about nerve repair and pacemakers. I need to know more...but after such a long period of time...a plication is likely my only option. I am a retired RN and so have a little insight on all this...but it's an unusual condition and there's just not much info out there. So I guess that's my intr
