I have always suffered from irregular periods. I thought it was all due to being too active in sport. However, I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinaemia which prevents periods the same way that lactating women tend not to have periods. The only symptom that I used to get before my period, when I was suffering from amenorrhoea, was a lot white mucus. So much that it would be nearly more than my period blood, which was very light due to the hyperprolactinaemia.
So if you do experience large amounts of mucus and amenorrhoea it could be good to have a blood test and make sure that all hormones are in the correct range brackets, as an abnormality could be changing the mucus and your cycle.
