About three months ago, I had sex with my ex-boyfriend. About a day or two later I noticed that my urethra had a bit swollen and I was experiencing random burning pains throughout the day. These burning pains did not occur when I had to urinate and/or urinated. This persisted for about two months. My doctor ran several tests and the only thing that came back positive was that I had vaginal strep (my pelvic exam and pap test both came back negative). I don't understand how I got this, because isn't vaginal strep usually an issue with pregnant women? Anyways, the doctor prescribed me anti-biotics and the pain went away. However, I recently had sex with this same ex-boyfriend, again. Yes, I know it was stupid. But anyways, I feel this swelling pain once again and I REALLY don't want to have to deal with this problem again. Any ideas on what this could be?

Hi MickyD17,
someone close to me that i know has recently been diagnosed with strep in her bladder. She's been through numerous tests and a cystoscapy(sp). After 7 months of pain, misdiagnosis, and numerous appointments, they have narrowed it down to strep. I was wondering what the anti-biotic you were prescribed? She is currently on one that is for strep (50mg dose per day) but is not working apparently.
Thanks.
