Hi, 20 y/o male, NOT sexually active with a quick questions. A few I felt a constant urge to urinate (20-30 minutes), sometimes right after. Occasionally I would feel discomfort around the tip of my urethra (the meatus?). Sometimes it would feel like as if there were just a few drops of urine stuck in my shaft. No abnormal discharge, or the fact it was disguised during my frequent passing of urine - but urine was usually yellowish/clear. Went to the doctor and submitted urine samples. Quick dipstick turned out negative but doc treated me with cypro, suflax and apo-whatever. Although I told him I was not sexually active, he said it was clinic policy to submit them for STD testing anyways.

A few days after starting the treatment (apo and suflax were one dose, cipro was for a week), I noticed that sometimes my urine in the morning would be turbid (as if small white bits were in it). Although it always occured in the morning, it sometimes was not the first void urine in the morning - perhaps second or third time. Over the rest of the day, my urine looked normal. The symptoms subsided after about 4 days and today I went to the doctor to see the results, as I had been away for the past few weeks.

Everything turned out to be negative! There was no culture in the urine analysis and (obviously) NAAT for chlamydia and gonnorhea were negative also.

So here's my question, what could have caused it? It was during the end of my exams period at college and I was suffering a lot of stress and anxiety. I know anxiety could explain the frequent urge to urinate, but what about the discomfort in the meatus and feeling of urine distention in the shaft? The doc says it might be my prostate but arent I a little too young for that?

Just trying to figure out what happened... ps. The doctor says some cloudy urine in the morning is usually nothing to worry about most of the time, is he right?

You probably had UTI (even though they did not pick it up on culture). Cultures are often negative. The turbid color, the burning feeling, urge to urinate ALL indicate a UTI.

I dont think it was "your prostate". An enlarged prostate CAN however cause urinary retention.
