I was feeling distress and discomfort so I visited my gynecologist. According to these symptoms that I had and after confirming it with vaginal examine, he said that is vaginitis. Mine was caused by infections, but I have heard sometimes it can be associated with more serious diseases. Also I have heard it can be caused by some sexual transmitted diseases. That’s why I would like to know something more about vaginitis.

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina. It is characterized by discharge, odor, irritation, and itching. Off course, as each of women is individual, some may develop all of those symptoms and some women only one or none. Cause of vaginitis may not always be determined adequately solely on the basis of symptoms or physical examination. To get correct diagnosis gynecologist should perform laboratory tests including microscopic evaluation of vaginal fluid. A variety of effective drugs are available for treat vaginitis. The most common vaginal infections that cause vaginitis are bacterial vaginosis, trichomonasis, and vaginal yeast infection or candidiasis. Women with vaginitis caused by bacterial infections should be informed about their diagnoses, including the possibility of sexual transmission. Also it should been offered treatment with antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin. Generally, male sex partners are not treated together with woman. Many women don’t seek for the treatment and refuse to be treated if there are no symptoms.
