Water retention is a condition in which the body retains water, causing swelling and tenderness,especially on the extremities and around the abdomen.Water retention is also used to describe the symptoms of feeling bloated or experiencing a small weight gain due to physiologic shifts in body fluid balance brought on by dietary changes,hormonal factors or dehydration.

Water retention can be very dangerous and it can even be life threatening. I know that water retention can occur around your heart and this will cause the pressure around the heart that will make your heart pump much harder. You will notice swelling around your legs, feet and ankles. This is very serious condition so it is advised that you go to hospital immediately. Kidneys can also be in danger from water retention, because it can cause kidney failure. Kidneys won’t be able to filter out the blood and turn it in to urine. You will notice inflammation and swelling around legs and ankles.
