Hi, I would like to know more about hyper reflexes, since my sister seems to suffer from that disorder. She has noticed some changes and she is wondering why has it happened to her.

Hi, I believe that hyper reflexia is noticed as hyper reaction to certain stimulation or exaggerated muscle contraction. It is relative to say what is hyper, so it is compared to general population. Reflexes are graded on a scale of 0-4. Zero means no reflex with re-enforcement or counter pressure, 1 is reflex with counter pressure, 2 is normal, 3 is increased response but not pathological, and 4 is called hyperactive. Grade 4 is often associated with clonus. Hyper reflexia can be related to stress, inflammation in central nervous system or present changes in conduction through spinal cord.
