It seems that long-term effects of the Ritalin drug haven’t been fully studied as there are no reports on the matter.
There are some warnings about growth stunt and weight loss in children taking this drug but no scientific evidence to prove it.

There are some speculations that Ritalin, being a stimulant, has the same long-term effects as amphetamines and cocaine do. It is believed that this drug could cause changes in the brain once the therapeutic effects wear off. The changes thought Ritalin could cause are changes brain cell structure and function.

Those who are abusing the drug (using it without need and prescription) may develop anxiety and sleepiness and those who are injecting the drug may develop a condition very similar to paranoid schizophrenia.
