Hi Miguel,

Her period is normal.  It seldom does occur the same time each month.  Usually it is on about a 28-29 day cycle.

Having sex during her period is likely too early to conceive.

Your sperm can live about 5 days in her vagina.  Her eggs, only about 48 hours after ovulation - when she ovulates is the key!  Normally, she'd ovulate some time between days 11-16 of her cycle, day 1 is the first day of her period.  If you have sex while she is on her period, it's too early.  Even with a 5-6 day period, you're just at day 11 when the sperm die.

She can find test kits to determine when she ovulates.  She can also use other methods, including basal body temperature to find out when she ovulates.

Basically, plan on having sex about 10 days AFTER  her period starts and during the next week or so.  After about day 18 of her cycle, the egg is NOT viable, not able to be fertilized.

It can take some time to get pregnant.  If problems continue, BOTH of you need a fertility workup.

Good luck.

Talking of a fertility workup what does it realy mean

During a fertility workup, you'd both have complete physical exams. She'd have a full gynecological exam, you'd have a sperm count done.

Bloodwork would be done on both of you, checking hormone levels. You'd both be checked for STD's. jCervical mucous may be done on her along with some ultrasounds. Basically, a full exam to determine if there are any problems with either of you that is hindering fertility.

Hope it helps.
