when you drop a piece of mail in one of those big blue mailboxes, the time listed is the latest time it will be picked up and posted marked on that day, yes?

Scenario: I need to mail this packet of papers to my prof, the last postmark it can have is today. The mailbox I'm dropping it in has its only pick up time for Saturdays as 5pm. This isn't some cruel hoax is it? It will still be postmarked 7/30 at 5pm even though that USPS branch isn't open at 5pm, right?

I'm usually not this big a procrastinator, okay, I am, but usually it doesn't involve the mail, so I don't know these things.

The answer to this could determine whether I bag this last paper in time to mail the others in the portfolio during the branch hours. Thank you.

I wouldn't trust the box. :umno: Take it to the Post office directly.

I think it would be against the law for her to dig it out of the box... :umno:

It means that it will be picked up at approximately 5 pm that day and that it will be postmarked that day. I'm not even sure that the time appears on the postmark. (?)

I've gone to the cargo area post office at the airpot near me which stays open later than the typical post office. They let you hand-stamp the postmark if you want.

And thats what my mom convinced me too, as I put it in the Sat 5pm blue mailbox at 4:45 tonight.
Thanks!

Mail is processed all evening until its finished. That means your piece of mail would get a date stamp of whatever day it was collected. This means if the collection is listed as Monday and you put it in the blue box Saturday, the date stamp on it is Monday. When it absolutely, positively has to be date stamped, go to the post office and ask them to stamp it.

Just knowing deadlines from the accounting world, I don't think there's a weekend USPS stamp to be had. You gotta hit it on a weekday or it won't be postmarked until Monday.

I'm pretty sure there is here, maybe your post office doesn't pick up on Saturdays?

Listen to Akern. Go directly to the Post Office. Do not pass "Go" (NTTAWWT). Do not collect $200.
