Actually, no. Your tongue heals faster than any other part of your body. If your tongue continues to bleed longer than 15 seconds, you probably lopped off half of it.

You should be sure if it's something to cut off though. You can damage the existing bud underneath and potentially cause the situation to become worse.

Again, clipping it will hurt for a moment, but it doesn't hurt long.

I actually was told by my primary dr to clip them off as well. Your mouth is an extremely clean area and self heals. I always clip mine off with nail clippers and it bleeds for three seconds and completely no pain or irritating bumps!!

Totally agree! Cut the bastards off and end it. A little pain now better than a lot of prolonged pain

I do the cutting off of the taste bud. I use sharp finger nail clippers and sterilize them, go up to the mirror, poke the canker sore through the blades and Ouch! The relief is well worth the pain.

it sounds awful but it's true. it works very well to cut it off. your tongue regenerates new taste buds every 45 days. no problem! not much bleeding either. I researched this a lot. of course none of the professionals recommend this. much cheaper too.

Minimizing the possibility of something being cancerous in your mouth is absolutely ridiculous. I had zero risk factors and yet I still found out when I was 28 years old and pregnant that I had squamous cell carcinoma A.k.a. oral cancer. I'm now 34 and my cancer has reoccurred twice since my initial diagnosis. And my only symptom was leukoplakia which is only a white spot in your mouth that doesn't go away on its own, Lucky for me during a routine dental cleaning my dentist was wise enough to know it WASN'T NORMAL.... Please please please for your own sake If there is something usual in your mouth and you are concerned don't wait to have it checked out if it is cancerous your best odds of surviving it is catching it in an early stage. Don't listen to idiots who undermind your inner voice. Good Luck

The tongue isn't sectioned off into "sections" for taste. Scientists have found that all parts of the tongue can taste different flavors.

For years, I've got these on the tip of my tongue on occasion & I found that clipping them off was the best solution to eliminate the pain. I am thrilled to read of so many others that do the same thing!!! I no longer think I'm crazy for resorting to this solution. :)

I have been clipping my irritated taste buds for years. My father is a doctor and my uncle is a dentist. I asked both of them in the past if there is anything wrong with cutting them off and both said no, not at all. It won't hurt anything and it does not affect your sense of taste. They also told me that our mouths are the fastest healing part of our bodies. The chance of cutting them off and it getting infected are very slim. The only way it would get infected is if you have very poor hygiene like not brushing your teeth. Or if you have alot of rotten infected teeth. But even then the chance of infection is rare.

Been doing this for years, as the need arises. The other guest who stated new or sterile nail clippers is spot on. The bud will bleed for just a few moments. Rinse and gargle, get some peace. I've had them arise from hot foods or pinching the tongue between teeth. The spot may be sore for for a day more, but you won't notice the spot ALL DAY LONG as with the swilled bud.
