Why do they still sell beer in glass bottles?

There should be a proper name for that device shouldn't there? How about the Bud Opener?

When plastic is recycled, it reduces air pollution and conserves oil and gas. But it is not advantageous over glass. Plastic from non-packaging sources is rarely recycled, and only two types of plastic are recycled in quantity. Unlike glass, plastic cannot be recycled indefinitely nor is it often recycled into food containers. Because plastics are lightweight, they are expensive to collect and sort, and automatic sorting equipment can be expensive. Virgin resins can be cheaper to buy, and some resins are difficult to clean.

Plastic recycling is much more costly than glass recycling. With glass, labels and food residues burn off in furnaces which saves money because there's virtually no prep time. The only cost escalators for glass are that in some markets it must be hand-sorted by color to be useful, and sometimes glass gets contaminated when other glass in the shipment breaks.

For these reasons and others, there are a lot of townships/cities that do not recycle plastic (Philadelphia is one of them). I take my plastic to a place that will recycle it, but most people don't (inconvenient) so it goes into the landfill which is ecologically and environmentally unsound.

Supposedly, depending on the type of plastic used, it can create an unpleasant taste that will change the true flavor of the beer (I asked the resident beer brewing expert). Additionally,, plastic is more sensitive to temperature changes and you can mess with the flavor.

Also, appearances. I was told this was the least important reason but I am guessing that it is the most. It's all about marketing.
