Went this morning for a transvaginal ultrasound (with pelvic outer ultrasound and abdominal ultrasound) due to lower abdomen pains. I’m 19 and a virgin and don’t use tampons (tried so many times but failed) so naturally I googled the procedure prior to going and everywhere said that there shouldn’t be any pain. However, I had the worst pain I’ve ever experienced during this ultrasound, to the point where I was breaking out into sweats and feeling nauseous. The tech finally decided to stop because she didn’t want to hurt me. I didn’t tell her that I was a virgin because I didn’t think anything of it and figured that my Dr wouldn’t have referred me to have one if she saw anything wrong with that. I have no idea if that pain is normal for someone in my situation or not? please, any insights would be fantastic. Just slightly freaking out..

I had one done a couple days ago and it was sooo painful. I had pain in my lower back and lower front abdomen. She could only find my left ovarie. I have had a hysterectomy 6 month's ago and left my ovaries. It was never painful in the past. My doctor wants me to come in to discuss results. All the nurse could tell me is I had alot of fluid on lower abdomen.

I am glad to find on here that other women experienced extreme pain with a vaginal ultrasound. Never again. Plus I suffered a brownish discharge for months afterwards which has stopped now so hope it did not causr cancer as I will not have another one.

My daughter was 12 weeks pregnant Monday. The day before she started spotting. Tuesday an external ultraosund showed she was miscarrying. Friday blood was pouring out of her. She went to ER. The contractions started to go away and bleeding was a lot better. They did a pelvic and she is dialated to 2 which is good. Then they did the internal ultrasound which she said killed her. The baby had already passed and everything looks good. Today, Sunday, she wakes up with pelvic pain and pressure. She hoes to the bathroom and something is falling out. She heads to ER but before she gets there it goes back inside her. She calls her ob dr and tjeybsay it sounds like a prolapsed cervix. If it has gone back in go home call office for Monday appt. I am wondering if this internal ultrasound pulled out her parts. Do not get an internal ultrasound ever!!!' She may now be facing a hysterectomy. My daughter has two sons, never had a preganancy complication , she is young, healthy.

Hi, I know this is an old post but I had a transvaginal ultrasound done 4 weeks ago. It was a make technician in training. He had no idea what he was doing. He was way too rough. Two days later I was in pain and had vaginal burning. After three weeks I went to see my OB/GYN. He did an internal and said that my cervix had been bruised. I’m assuming there’s lots of inflammation in there that was brought on by that ultrasound. Hoping it settles down soon and goes away.

I know your post is old but I've been researching and yours is the closest to what I was looking for. My vaginal ultrasound went fine and I've had one or two in the past with zero issues, but a few hours after this one I felt like I had developed a UTI. I had the pressure and the feeling of having to go again right after urinating. Then later that evening it began to hurt at the end of urinating. I do not have bladder/ kidney problems and have never had a uti before and thought it was strange that it happened just hours after the exam. After reading so many testimonies, I do believe the exam caused whatever this is, but not sure how to find relief. I've been using holistic methods as it is the weekend, and it has gotten rid of the pressure and urgency mostly, but the discomfort after urinating hasn't disappeared completely yet. Good luck to everyone suffering from these issues, I hope you find relief.

Not sure if you'll see my answer but I had the SAME problem... I used to could go a whole workday without urinating.. Meaning 5-8 hours without "having" to go... After a transvaginal ultrasound I had to go 3-5 times during work day. Also I've lost feelings ... Like before it was nothing for my nipples to become erect...I used to have to wear a bra with everything... Now I can go braless and its much harder to climax... Not sure if it damaged a major nerve or muscle. It's going on two years and I still suffer from urinary discomfort and weakend pelvic floor.

Vaginismus, sometimes called vaginism, is a condition that affects a woman's ability to engage in vaginal penetration, including sexual intercourse, manual penetration, insertion of tampons or menstrual cups, and the penetration involved in gynecological examinations (pap tests) and during transvaginal ultrasounds.

I am in your shoes.... Initial insertion hurts alot (reduced me to tears) but once the probe is in, its fine. Try to insert the probe yourself standing up... Lying down really hurts and breath out deeply... It will relax your muscles

hi, i am so glad i'm not going crazy. i went for a trans. ultrasound and she pocked me so hard. it's been 2 months and i'm still in pain. idk what to do. it feels like it's a strain or pull and like it'll pop. if i eat too much, lay on my side, etc.. it hurts. i can't get an answer from the docs how to fix it. i'm supposed to get a hysteroscopy and worried it'll make it worse. my surgeon believes it will be better removing the polyp but i think it's muscular. what medicine worked for you? i have some muscle spasm relaxers i was gonna try. thx so much for your help and glad u r better!!!
