Will taking suboxone cause weight gain?

Oh my goodness this is 5he first time I have decided to Google weight gain and suboxone. Iv also have never had any problem with my weight 40 pds.I weight more than I did when I delivery my children. And I can't stand to look in the mirror they don't want to tell you about sugar gravings.I think I was better off staying on the pills at least I could look in the mirror. I'm starting to the the dr.make money of the med.I just want my body back.when I was taking pills at least I ate better meal.and not a 100 twinkes a day

I so understand I'm depressed about my weight gain I was never going to be one of those fat older ladies.but here I am thanks to suboxone big tops and leggings.just by what I have read it always 40pds.the dr.never told me about weight. And when I go back for a check up he never wants to address this problem..somebody is making a whole lot of money.but I'm miserable

Me too!!! I've been on Suboxone for 10 years. I used to weigh 125 until I was 48 now im 58 and 240!!!!! I am so depressed I don't want to see anyone and haven't seen my sister who is a size 4 for over 5 years. The weight gain started gradually then escalated the more depressed and inactive I've become.
I've always been on 8 mg and am just now with a doctor who is motivated to help me get off it.
I am so out of shape though that I can't tell the difference when I walk between withdrawal or just lost muscle and carrying an extra 110+ pounds around.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN FAT UNTIL Suboxone.
I am dropping 1 mg per month and will keep you posted to see if I lose weight but don't think I will until I'm off.
Has anyone else lost weight when they reduce or get off Suboxone?

I e been on Suboxone for two mi this and dieting. While I have lost weight ,it's been less than a pound a week and by mg calculations if should be three times that.

Yes weight gain happened to me as well. I gained 50 pounds. I have felt the exact same way you have. My suggestion is to try some healing therapy while on the medication. I find it helps to do a acupuncture, acupressure massage, foot reflexology or something at least once a month or twice if you can afford it. Do research in your area & find something in your budget. I also found it better to lower dosage just a bit. Hope this helps & that you can try a holistic therapy to go along with the medication.

I’m am feeling the same way I have only been on subs for three weeks after my methadone got out of control. I started taking it for rcps(pain) after my tolerance went way up on everything else and now I want jam on toast chocolate ice cream anything sweet I’m thinking of dropping the suboxone and trying to deal with the pain until a hip replacement and a couple of other surgeries, see how we go

I have always been tiny so are all the females in my family I'm five feet and I have never weighed more than one hundred and five lbs until I was introduced to suboxen now weighing one twenty to one twenty five I stay constipated and my stomach protrudes out I no longer feel sexy I've lost my flat stomach no matter how many exercises I do I continue to gain weight I asked my doctor about it and he said its not the suboxen making me gain weight it's because I no longer take opiates so I now want to eat which makes no sense like I said before I've never weighed more than one hundred and five lbs before and after opiates so from my experience suboxen does put weight on you my appetite has not changed but my stomach won't go down and I've gained fifteen lbs

I know this is an old post but I swear you were writing about me. My first year on subs I took only small pieces, but now after taking 4 mg a day for the last year I have gained 30 lbs and break out into uncontrollable sweats. Just my face alone is bigger. I seriously am so depressed over it and I feel stuck as I can't go off Suboxone... I will relapse, I will die. I don't eat any different than I used to either. I just feel swollen all the time. And it's not constipation either because I go the the same as I've gone all my life.

I WAS on suboxone for 6 years. 4 minths ago I got off completely. Of course I had tapered down throughout the years. Ive noticed that it made my periods very irregular and almost non existent. By the last year i was on such a low dose of suboxone that gradually i noticed my periods returning to normal. The ater weight thing....its a weird one for me because I feel that when I stopped the suboxone I began to retain water. I had the urge to urinate all the time. Also im putting on weight like crazy which I dont like but hell its more easily reversible than a drug addiction.

I wish I had found this thread 2 years ago. Your story could be mine. My stomach, which I have NEVER had issues with even after having 2 children, is now not the stomach I’ve had my entire life. I’ve gained 25 lbs on Suboxone. My dr told me it was not the subs but I call bs. I’ve maintained the same weight +/- 5lbs throughout my various sober/not sober stints. I start taking this and bam! I’m gaining weight consistently and not doing anything different except the meds. I workout, eat healthy, nothing helps.

That’s so funny. I thought I was pregnant too lol. I am 49 most likely not. Yes subpoxen will cause you to swell and retain a ton of water weight and yes I gained 50 pounds. I tried stopping that devil medicine a week ago and lost 10 pounds immediately. I am now on the lowest 2 milligrams and cannot wait to get off this toxic weight gaining medicine which has also caused me many personal problems in my life. I use to be in great shape and this medicine regardless of what drs tell you is big on making money for them. Of course they are not going to tell you how fat this medicine might make you and also how numb you are to the world around you. Good luck

I have the same thing. I want to get off of sugar, because the last time I got off of sugar, I lost so much weight. But I was not on suboxone then, and I was younger! What is so aggravating is no matter how much I tell myself I'm going to quit sugar, I find myself eating it the first thing the next day. Sugar Busters is a great weight lose program , and a way to live.
