My doctor said I have high risk of coronary heart diseases or so called CHD. I found out that lipid altering agents should be used in addition to a diet restricted in saturated fat and cholesterol. He recommended me to start with Zocor simultaneously with diet. I want to know more about my disease and why I have to use Zocor. Also I am interested about dosage and administration information about this drug I have to start with.

Zocor is indicated in patients with high risk of coronary events because of existing coronary heart disease, history of stroke or other cerebrovascular disease. Also for diabetes and peripheral vessel disease, Zocor is recommended too. He reduces the risk of total mortality by reducing CHD deaths. He is used for reduces risk of non-fatal myocardial infraction and stroke, and to reduce the need for coronary and non-coronary revascularization procedures. Patients while using Zocor should be placed on a standard cholesterol lowering diet, as your doctor done. It’s good to start Zocor simultaneously with diet with patients with CHD or at high risk of CHD. Dosage should be individualized, as everyone is individual. Difference depends of the goals of therapy and patient’s response. Recommended usual starting dose is 20 to 40 mg/day every evening. For patients at high risk above listed diseases starting dose is 40mg/day. Lipid determinations should be performed after 4 weeks of therapy.
