You can't avoid pregnancy, you can always get pregnant no matter what. It doesn't matter if you don't have your period the other days throughout the month. If you don't want to get pregnant, you need a condom and a form of birth control. Make sure you take your birth control around the same time ever single day. If you forget a night, take it as soon as you can the next day, and still take your daily dose.

There's always a risk of pregnancy.

You're actually better off, less risk, just before your period or just when it starts.  Sperm can live about 5 days and you can ovulate anywhere from about day 11 to 16.  So if you wait until day 7 there is an increasing chance of pregnancy.

Use a form of protection.  It is the only safe way.
