Women ovulate AFTER their period. Let's say you have a 28 day cycle, DAY 1 is the day you start a period, you would ovulate on day 14. 5 days AFTER your period is approximately day 10-13, depending on how your bleeding was. Sperm can live in you for 5 days, so it can stay alive long enough to fertilize an egg.
(IF you are worried)PLEASE consider use of the morning after pill, when taken within 3 days of unprotected sex it is over 94% effective at preventing pregnancy. YOU can take it up to 5 days, but it is less effective.

While that is the "standard" female cycle, and I respect your medical knowledge of that, there have been cases when women did get pregnant while on their periods. It is something they even teach in the Sex Education classes, because it can happen, even if it is rare.
Also, the poster didn't clarify... 5 days after the start of their period or was it 5 days after it was over. Either way, it is possible to still get pregnant.

They do not actually get pregnant on their period, they get pregnant from sexual intercourse that happened during their period. This can happen if you have an especially short cycle..
