Hi all, new to running. I ran/hobbled my first marathon in December. At mile 20 of that race, my right knee underwent TREMENDOUS pain. But since I was already at mile 20, I just hobbled the rest of the way. I was on crutches for the next 2 days. However, after 2 days, the pain was completely gone. I took about 2 weeks off of running and continued running just to stay in shape. I've come to realize, that after I run more than 4-5 miles or so, the inside of my right knee experiences some discomfort, though not enough pain to force me to stop immediately. After the run, my knee will continue to feel some discomfort for a few hours and then the pain is completely gone. After a while, I began to notice a small, quarter-sized bruise on the inside of my right knee. It didn't hurt to the touch, but when I pressed deeper, the pain started. To the BEST of my knowledge which is very limited, I'm assuming the pain is on or near my MCL, on the inside of my right knee. Again, the pain is not excruciating but I'm very worried about how serious this injury could get. I'm not quite sure what's happening here. Can anyone shed some light on this? I would really like to start running longer distances without the pain or discomfort. Thanks for reading.
