Okay so I am in college and I live with my fiancé. We did have sex right around the time I was ovulating and he did not use a condom. I am on the pill and take it faithfully. I am a little confused because now it's the week before I start my period and I have a LITTLE bit of bleeding and a normal amount of cramps. I can't really tell if my breasts are bigger but one is a little sore. (I could just be reading a little too far into this). I have had to use the bathroom frequently (both 1 and 2) sorry so descriptive!! And I have been slightly nauseous. Is this just an early period or am I pregnant?

Hi M,

Usually birth control is very effective but, the LITTLE bleeding that you are seeing could possibly be implantation bleeding.  It normally occurs about a week before your period is due.

Wait and see if you get your period.  If not, take a home test using your FIRST morning urine for the best results.

If you test negative and have not had a normal period 7-10 days after you expected your period, retest.  By then the results of the home test should be very accurate.  If still nothing, then see your doctor.

Hang in there.  Taking the pill as directed only about 2 out of 100 women will conceive.
