My cousin has a whole list of diagnoses related to mental health, including autism and schizophrenia. I have recently got to know him really well, because his parents stayed at my house to be close to him in the center where he has been getting treatment for months. I have come to learn that autism and schizophrenia together form a dangerous combination and that automatic obedience is a key element of why my cousin will never be able to be fully independent. Does this happen to other individuals with autism too, or is it closely linked to the schizophrenia?

I am sorry that your cousin is struggling so much, but it is wonderful that you are doing so much to try and help him, as well as understand him better. Our son is autistic, and while he displays a level of automatic obedience, it is by no means universal. Sometimes, he looks inwards and is rather unreachable, even by those closest to him. So there is no risks of him getting himself into dangerous situations with strangers.
