Does anyone know whether autoimmune hepatitis ever happen to children, and can you tell me more about the circumstances under which this happens? I know autoimmune hepatitis is a disease that mainly strikes youngish women, but beyond that I am not aware of many of the details. Please fill me in.

My daughter is 6 years old and she was diagnosed with AIH when she was 2 years old. It is EXTREMELY rare to occur at that young of age. It most commonly affects females in their 20s. BUT anyone can get it, at any age.

It is a autoimmune disease where your body attacks the liver thinking that is not its own; Similar to a transplanted organ. It is a life threatening condition. Controlled by medication.

Not sure what other info will help...
