Hi. My brother has been experiencing some liver problems in last few months. Doctors are considering autoimmune hepatitis as the most probable diagnosis. I have the feeling that they are still not sure. I would like to know the diagnostic criteria of this disease. Can anyone provide me with more info? Is there any blood or some other tests that can be used?

I think that blood tests should be done first. They should seek for antibodies. If they exist, then you can say that it is autoimmune hepatitis. Liver biopsy is also necessary. This method will help in viewing how much liver is damaged. Imaging methods like CT is also helpful. Lately, MRI is becoming more popular. MRI is not so harmful like CT and it provides us with better images. I hope this helps. Good luck!
