Thank you for your post, just had similar diagnosis (cancer) and had op & coil removed, but no mention of the cause..(it is hormone related cancer, oestrogen 'fed'). Before radiotherapy & taking hormone medecine starts,I am now wondering whether to go ahead with 'ablation',recommended to reduce periods in the future. It is a thought, to have another thing to get over, and I wonder what reaction my body will have to it? Hav had a 3 week bleed even though taking medecine to reduce flow, but stopped now..

Hiya I have read through these posts and i wanna share m with my experience too. I had a coil (mirena) fitted over 2 yrs ago and it was a breeze to be fitted. After a few days though i started feeling sick, and like something inside my stomach was tied tight to my belly button and my ovaries....so painfull. This continued off and on for a few months. I spotted off andn on throughout this time...no really heavey periods but severe pain continued.

I, one night had a flood of a preiod and went to pull out tampon and yanked the string of the coil and it was out!!! and instant pain relief.

Just last week i again was back at the docs, mega heavy periods and she fitted the coild again. I was determined to try. This time there is a new trigger release on it and it was like being shot inside with a crossbow! i about jumped off the table. Oh she said i should have said before lol. A few twinges that Monday night, okay tuesday and wednesday...thursday getting tired and felt sick. I had lunch at work on Friday and then the sore stomach cramps appeared again. This time thinking it was something i had eaten....i sipped warm water and to a few pain killers. Picked my 3 kids up from schhool...went home and could hardly stand. I was in severs pain and was crying....took windeeze thinking it was wind...it wasnt.

My husband came home and saw me said i looked green...i was at this time panicking with the pain and i took a few morre pain killers and went to bed. Couldnt get comffy or asleep for the pain, i told hubby i was gonna to take it it as this was the last resort and couldnt think of anything else to do or what would be causing the pain. I was scared but again swiftly yanked it out, no pain and no bleeding unitil Monday! slight bleeding...a few clots off and on, but nothing that resembles my usual normal period!!

I will never get this fitted again...my stomach blew up that night like a football, burning, pain sensation....hard to describel like my body was rejecting it....glad to say it's out and all over now..

I had the mirena coil for only two weeks and woke up one morning bleeding heavy and clotting so I had it removed. My belly feels better since its been taken out but Im still having light cramping and LOTs of bleeding that has so far lasted 15 days with no sign of it letting up. How long does the withdrawal bleed last and does anyone know if birth control pills will stop the bleeding? I dont want to make it worse. I know birth control pills typically reduces bleeeding but I dont know if they will after the mirena being removed. Im at a loss as to what to do for the bleeding. This is AWFUL.

I had my IUD taking out 1 week ago today. I started spotted here and there with some heavy and light bleeding. Then about 6 days after removal I had major bleeding and clotting. I was going through a tampon an hour for about 6 hours it was scary!

I had the coil fitted on the third of January .after 10 days it started to irritate me , like a heavy feel inside plus back ache and pains on top of my legs . After four trips to the doctors and a visit to a&e . I did get it removed eleven days ago . I'm still bleeding , it's draining me now light headed . I haven't done any exercises since the third of jan . I've got a really bad cold because I'm run down . I haven't had a cold in years . It does work great for some people and its a nightmare

I wanted to share my experience in the hope that it might just make someone's lie a little easier.... Like a number of you, I had my coil fitted 5 years ago and relished in the fact that I wasn't having any periods, but over the past year I have become aware that the natural cycle of periods is so important and I started to investigate the side effects of having a coil fitted.  I have, like a large number of women I read about, gained weight - 4 stone in 5 years - although my diet now is healthier than it has ever been.  I rarely drink alcohol; I never eat processed or junk foods and yet, I still couldn't lose weight.

I got the standard letter from my doctor telling me that it was time to have the coil replaced, but I decided instead to get it out.  It's now a week since it was removed and what I have experienced is so far removed from what the doctor told me, I am astounded.

Doctor:  You may experience a bit of spotting for a couple of days

FACT:  I have been bleeding heavily, sometimes fairly large clots, since it was removed

Doctor:  No, the coil won't have been affecting your ability to lose weight

FACT:  I have lost half a stone in the past week

Doctor:  No, the coil won't have been affecting your mood / libido

FACT:  My husband can't believe that he is married to the same woman... I am happier, brighter, more energetic than I have been in five years, and, although I haven't told him yet - as it's not fair because there isn't a huge amount he can do with the information while I am bleeding - I feel sexy AND want to have sex again!!!

The one thing that I am thankful for is that as a therapist I was aware that the hormone shift may take its toll and so I loaded up on vitamin / mineral supplements; extra Vit C; Vit E; Omega 3 oils and Agnus Castus tincture, all of which, while they haven't stopped the bleeding yet, have meant that I am not tired, in any pain or moody in any way.

Good luck to anyone thinking of having their coil removed and the best advice I can give you is take a look at your vitamin regime - it'll support you through what may be a trying time.... and get the damn thing out as soon as you can!!!

With love and blessing

A Kentish Girl
