Hello there,

Well when it comes to the definitions bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes. The role of these tubes is to carry air to the lungs.  Usually bronchitis causes shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness. Since you were asking for chronic bronchitis, you should know that there are two types, and the second one is acute.

Chronic bronchitis is one type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and this means that inflamed bronchi produce a lot of mucus. Result of this is cough and difficulty in breathing.  Causes are various and treatment will help your symptoms but this is a long-term condition that keeps coming back. Even if it goes back the chances are that will reoccur as soon as your environment conditions get worse.

Actually bronchiectasis and chronic bronchitis are types of COPD. Bronchiectasis is the permanent enlargement of Bronchioles and a thick mucous is secreted in bronchial tubes which makes the breathing difficult, while Chronic bronchitis is the inflamation of Bronchioles, as a result the walls of bronchioles become thick and makes breathing difficult. Both types are treatable.
