Hello, folks. My friends’ kid has been diagnosed with ADHD. I know that this baby had some painful procedure in neonatal period, so I wonder whether ADHD can be a result of this or not. I hope someone here could tell me something more about this. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi, there. ADHD can be caused by different factors. Brain structure and chemical imbalance in the brain are the main ones. Different functioning of brain areas that control attention is also possible. There are some studies that investigate painful procedures in neonatal period as a cause of ADHD. Many painful procedures were taken. Some of them are: a tube placed in nose or trachea, blood drainage, etc. I am not sure about the result. You should discuss this with an expert. I hope I’ve helped with this. Bye!
