My father went to doctor few days ago and he has problem with high level of Triglycerides. His doctor told him that it’s nothing serious but he prescribed him statins. I don’t understand why he needs to take drugs if it’s nothing severe. I’m wondering can Triglycerides be treated without statins?

As I know the primary method of treating elevated triglycerides is with proper diet, exercise, and weight loss. I think that only people with very high triglyceride levels, greater than 500 mg/dL, need to take medications. But I’m sure that your father’s doctor knows better then me what is right.
