Hi, my father is 56 years old and he hasn’t been feeling well for a while. His weight gained over past few years, but he never thought that it would cause him so much trouble. He visited a doctor, and found out that his cholesterol level is very high. The doctor prescribed him cholestyramine and some vitamins. Does anyone have some experience with this drug?

Hi, I am using cholestyramine too. My cholesterol is increased and I am afraid it could clog my blood vessels. I want to prevent stroke and a heart attack. Cholestyramine attaches to some substances in the intestine, and they pass out of the body together. It is available only with a prescription, as oral suspension and powder. I am using cholestyramine along with a diet and exercise plan that my doctor recommended me. Your father should do it to, because it will help him in controlling and lowering cholesterol. There is only one thing about cholestyramine I don’t understand. Why does it sometimes provoke a rise in triglycerides? I always thought that treating high cholesterol also means reducing triglycerides. I guess it has something to do with a fact that there are two kinds of cholesterols, and that it’s most important to lower the bad one.
