Hydrocele is a medical condition in which afluid-filled sack in the scrotum in formed. It is a disease which indicates a neurotic buildup of serous fluid in a body cavity. This disease is most common in newly born babies. Under normal circumstances throughout normal growth, the testicles slope downwards a tube from the abdomen into the scrotum. This disease comes in action when this tube is unable to close. The fluid is formed in the scrotum and it is unable to find an escape. It gets trapped there and causes severe swelling in the scrotum. Hydroceles are not considered dangerous and are painless. They can be cured easily but they are painful in extreme cases and can cause irritation in the area they are developed. Only in severe cases can it cause serious injury to the scrotum, serious infection or blood clotting.

Thank you Lawrence, for this post.  I really appreciate it.  I am 30, going on my thirty-fifth day with a hydrocele.  Its the second coming (no pun intended) of this right testicle hydrocele, had it as you've stated, when I was born and it dissipated and left the scene of the accident after just under a year (according to my Mom).

I'll be honest and blunt, I don't enjoy hospitals or being sick or in this sort of predicament.  I am not used to it and surely, when I was a baby, I obviously had no life and didn't worry about stuff and didn't have to "walk around and do things and have a relationship and have all this stress and take medicine for an addiction issue that was resolved 3 years ago but still take the meds just in case - doctor's orders", etc.etc.etc.There can be so many reasons for its return: 1. just happened and may happen again; 2. my lower extremities (feet, ankles, calves, and legs) have pitting edema from the meds I take so I wear Miracle Copper Compression Socks and it works and I sleep with legs up.  But possibly this issue has entered my scrotal sack now, which isn't ruled out while looking up, studying hydrocele symptoms and causes.  Also, the day I was shocked by its arrival, I had a blind boil on both sides on my inner thighs (which is known for causing inflammation, swelling, and infection -- it is itself caused by staph(sp?) infections/bacterial, etc., or the continuous sweating I go through from my meds).

Point is, it is huge and hard, no lumps, pain arrived around a week ago (4 weeks in, 28 days) and during rest it gets smaller and more tighter against other teste as if I ran naked outside in the winter and during active living, daytime hours, even if it is just sitting at the computer, it lowers and hangs, but gets bigger of course and recently has become a clear discomfort, with random sharp pains that now seem to be giving me what I believe are SI Join pain (sacroiliac joint) on right side, making my right lower back, right hip feel weak as if I was laying in bed for months and cannot walk with strength!

I had it checked only once, after 7 days of its arrival, no transillumination was done but the Physician's Assistant stated it was a hydrocele, but to get Ultrasound just in case because it could be a hernia (of course, that's what non-doctors do).  I should have gone to a Urologist to get a second opinion or simply another doctor.  Anyway, that's what I am going to do tomorrow.  I am going to search my area for urologists with my insurance or simply go to the ER and have it properly diagnosed and tested.  From then on, since I cannot wait due to all of the discomfort, SI joint pain, and also, recent random irritation between testicle and hip in that area of our bodies that sweats and it gets rough, you know, as if you have a rash.

So, instead of driving my fiancee insane, I'm going to bite the bullet, share my testicles with a doctor at a hospital, whatever, and hopefully I desire to get it aspired which is when they go and numb the testicle and suck out the fluid with a needle.  I heard it can return, not sure how long after, but I'll just keep doing that until it is gone for good.  Maybe later in life I will get that sclerosing agent to close up the tube opening (stomach to scrotum) but until then, not sure about it because I've read it could send you either ED or Infertility.

Appreciate the post.  It made me feel really good, less anxious.  Even though I identify as you said, an extreme case, I still feel better.   Your description of a hydrocele is amazing, way more informative than Wikipedia and all other medical sites.  Unbelievable!  I wish I would've read this before.  One more thing, I clicked this post after reading "Celdeton".  I saw that, it is a natural herbal supplement, right?  How do I get that?  These things aren't at Walmart, of all places and pharmacies around my area, constantly are asking for "hydrocele vitamins" and search the racks but come up with nothing.  Is there a reputable site I can purchase this online?  Thank you.

Can hydrocele occur later in life? I have just read about this condition in a 11 months old baby, what if this occurs in later life, at the age of 57?
