My son is 15 and been having an issue with a mass in his testicle that he his from me for almost a year. He broke down and told me about it due to the pain he started enduring with it. I took him to Childrens Hospital to be evaluated and they drew some blood for test and for cancer. They done a sonogram and while the radiologist was doing it she became very concerned and she called a specialist in to review her findings. We were told he had a hydrocele and the mass was a tumor. This knot happened to leave his testicle and go all way up to his groin area. The mass started growing and due to the vessel/tube it happen to float freely in wasn't big enough for it to continue to move freely in and would get stuck and he would hurt. He would have to force it back down in the scrotum. The radiologist stated there was fluid on the right testicle but not to bad. She stated there was a mass on the center of the left testicle but couldnt dictate what type of mass it was. He was seen on a Thursday and blood results confirmed no cancer. The Urologist urged strongly to have the surgery to remove the 3rd knot that was flowing in and out that caused pain the following Friday morning but my son declined and refused due to him being a hemophiliac and felt it was best to wait and get prepared and have a detailed plan with all specialist aware and know how to prepare for this and have everyone on same page. His Urologist, Respiratory specialist and his hematologist aboard to make sure this is safe as possible for him. The following Tuesday he had to check in at 6am and start infusions and start checking blood levels to make sure his blood levels were no longer in a dangerous level to be able to proceed with the procedure. Every hour he would be infused with his Factor 8 medication, which happens to be almost 2 grand per dose, then 30 minutes after they draw blood to send off to see his levels. His levels are 23% normally and we needed them to be 100% or over. Finally by 1230pm he reached the levels he needed to be at in order to have procedure. They warned us once he started and he removed the mass and seen any form of abnormalities on other testicles he would remove everything completely without waiting. The procedure was to cut him at his groin and go in there and evaluate other testicles and remove one or both if needed. We were told he would have swelling in the scrotum and be size of softball for a normal male but with his hemophilia, he may swell worse than others or possibly just swell like normal one would no bigger than softball. Told me they would put a drainage tube in his scrotum to release blood and swelling. He said that is normal procedure. So regardless there would be swelling in his scrotum and testicles for going in the area to evaulate and remove mass. And was told it seems left testicle would believed to be removed 75% felt removal was best interest. But regardless drainage tube and major swelling would occur due to so many vascular viens and sensitive area and would get inflammed. Procedure would take 2 hours.
Well they took him back and within 30 minutes they call me and state its done. I wasn't nor still am I happy with this and feel uneasy of what he said he was doing and what he done.
The surgeon cut at the groin and it so happen that the mass was in the vessel/tube at this time instead of the scrotum with his testicles. It was removed and said no testicles had to be removed. He had no swelling NONE in his testicles nor drainage tube. No pain period! I feel he never evaluated his scrotum nor testicles. I feel since the mass was in the groin, he simply removed it and got out. What I was told was it was called a lymphoma and hydrocele in beginning. Today is a week and 2 days later and told it happen to be an extra testicle he had. Is this even possible with it having same traveled route where it flowed? Flowing back and forth same size for a year then suddenly manifestated to larger size and continuous basis get stuck in the vessel/tube to point painful and he would push it back down into the scrotum? You could see the knot under his skin and watch it travel in same route. (I would never see his private area so never seen how it formed in his testicles). There are 2 forms of hydrocele. Non-communicating and commincating. His was communicating due to the travel it was doing to groin and to scrotum. (Non communicating hydrocele is when it dormant in the scrotum and never leaves).
The Urologist stated he feels it was none of what he thought in the beginning and now states it was a 3rd testicle that was commuting back and forth in scrotum to groin. And everything is fine. But I am very picky on anyone touching my son due to his disabilities for asthma and hemophilia. And we all listened very well to what his outcome would be after he was done. And we studied tons before surgery to prepared us for swelling as well as drainage tube. And seems to me, he didn't evaluate his other testicles nor scrotum. He has no swelling and no sign he went into that area during surgery to check the testicles ESP when they reported and stated the mass in left testicle. He only hurt where incision occurred and that is all. I know my son is strong and have seen him break bones and still play until he had no choice but to stop cuz needed his infusion. He has been doing his own IV's to himself since age of 9. He made world wide newspaper at the age of 9 for being able to infuse himself and not mess up at the youngest age in world. But I know the testicles are supper sensitive and feel he would be uncomfortable at least. He can take pain that would have me doubled over and didn't cry nor Flench like it never happen but felt he would feel uncomfortable from that area due to exploring it. His groin was very painful for him but says no uncomfortable nor uneasy pain in that area. He can tolerate and control pain from me but couldn't in his groin. And besides, if he held pain and refused to allow me to know, why wasn't there any swelling there from simply exploring that area? I feel it didn't happen and only the removal of the "extra testicle" from groin and that is all that was done. I had to call the Urologist back today due to him having issues with tingling in his foot and leg due to the incision is swollen and pushing on his nerve to his leg and was told if that occurred to report immediately as I did and told its ok now. But beforehand it wasn't ok. And my son was taking a shower and found ANOTHER knot to appear in his left testicle. I reported his tingling and new knot to Urologist and was told it may be another testicle there. And the tingling in foot and leg is normal. I wouldn't have a hard time believing all this IF he didn't contradict his words before and after procedure. And I googled beforehand all would occur after surgery and every site indicated and stated swelling would get size of softball and drainage tube as well as pain and ESP with him, swelling and he had NONE of the above and I having hard time thinking and believing he explored the scrotum to evaluate his left testicle and his right testicle. And now overnight suddenly a new knot.
Am I misunderstanding something or to paranoid? What is going on?

Hi Guest,
I can't say you're being paranoid. I think you're very concerned, as you should be.
Ask your questions of the surgeon directly. Set up an appointment so that neither of you is interrupted. Write your questions down ahead of time and be specific. Use the time wisely.
The only other suggestion I have is that if you are not satisfied with the answers then find another doctor/surgeon to evaluate your son.
We don't know his full history. We don't have any test results. As such it is difficult to give any specific advice.
Good luck to you both.

Thank u for taking the time to even reply. Its no health history other than severe asthma and Hemophilia. I spoke with the surgeon twice since surgery and that is who I spoke personally today concerning the new knot formed as well as the tingling sensations in foot and leg from poor circulation due to incision being so swollen and was told to report that symptom promptly due to not a good sign but suddenly it's OK. I have mentioned and discussed the concerns of procedure that I had and was told everything is OK and mass was removed from the groin canal. He keeps dodging why no swelling and won't answer the findings he seen on left testicle on exploratory surgery compared to sonogram. Strongly feel scrotum never was explored. He does have another appointment with him December and I plan to question him once again but much harder. If tingling sensation doesn't stop, I have no choice but to override his recommendation and drive him to Childrens that is 50 miles away to confirm reasoning of this. I plan to call his hematologist first thing in morning. He has a specialist that comes out that specializes in his disorder and been waiting on what Urologist said first and plans to get an answer as well. Thank u for your advice.
