Hey there!

I have a problem with my penis. The top of penis head has become chapped and now it’s really difficult for me to pull the foreskin back. I cannot imagine how I get this. I’m pretty hygienic before and after sex too and my girlfriend too.

My girlfriend has checked her, and her gyno couldn’t find any infections. I’ve a lot of worries because there’s so many STD's around now, but I still think there’s nothing to worry about. Please if someone experienced this problem, post it here and share it. Thanks!

yeah I've heard about this cause I've had it.....just to make sure though see a doctor and check if its not a STD, if not then you can go to the doctor and he/she can give you a special cream to make the skin (dead skin) go away so that you can pull the foreskin backall the way.....I tried the cream and it worked when I was using it but as soon as I stopped the dead chapped skin came back.....if this is the case then the only other option is to get a circumcision....I did this and the chapped skin is gone for good, although it you need to get used to the penis being exposed without the foreskin covering it....it still works like a charm.....hope this helps....even though you posted this in 2005.....you might read it though so if you do then let me know somehow

Yeast infections in females are common. It's not an STD and nothing to worry about as long as she is a hygienic girl and "cleans it up." Normally, the girl will go to a doctor who will prescribe a cream that will kill the yeast and then the girl will no longer have the white discharge. The yeast is essentially an infection, live yeast are living in her warm, moist area and they need to be killed. The cream kills the yeast.

Dry penis for males is not a problem for circumcized males as it goes away quickly because the fungus cannot survive in this dry environment. It is essentially the same thing as athletes foot. Notice that athletes foot fungus does not grow on people's hands (I know, I've had athletes foot most of my life). It does not grow on the hands because it is a dry environment. A circumsized penis is a similarly dry environment. I have had numerous of these "dry skin" infections on my penis but they usually go away within three days or so. If you are uncircumsized you will need a cream from your doctor (or athletes foot cream) to kill the fungus.

(Qualification: I'm 35 years old and I've had numerous girlfriends and I've experienced all of this and talked with my girlfriends about it. Fortunately, I have NEVER had an STD though. Only bacterial and yeast infections. By the way, I don't think males can get yeast infections. I once had epididymitis, which is when you get bacteria in your penis and it makes it's way to your balls and bladder and you get a bladder and testicle infection. It's painful as hell. Took several months of antibiotics. Today, I am EXTREMELY hygienic and careful to not get any bacteria or anything inside me nor my girlfriend. (keep those feet AWAY from the vagina and always WASH YOUR HANDS before touching her vagina)).

this is not a big deal to fix: (1) clean with antibacterial soap after sex; (2) use lube for sex if woman is not really wet; and (3) when irratated/red/cracked put neosporin and moisturize. If this dosnt do it put lotramin on it.

antibacterial soap won't affect the fungus. that only works on bacteria, which the the enemy of fungus.

it is a yeast infection. yeast is a type of fungus. creams and the like won't work. i bet the doctor also recommend a circumcision.

i had a yeast infection that i was fighting for 8 months. my foreskin was very tight, cracked and bled when i pulled it back. on the head of my penis the skin was also peeling. again, all three doctors i visited said the same thing, circumcision.

i thought about why the snipping would work. air and yeast don't mix. the exposed infected skin needs air to destroy the yeast. as painful as it was, i pulled the foreskin back and kept it that way as much as i could. after four days it completely cleared up. no creams, lotions, potions or surgery.

it has been 6 months now, no problems any more.

I am a 22 year old, uncircumcised male and I have the same issue. However, I can attest that it is not a yeast infection (at least in my case). The one time I did contract a yeast infection from a partner I never had this problem. The only thing I can attribute it to is being just dry skin. I live in a high altitude, so the air is dry which is what I am attributing to the issue (as when I go to more humid climates I do not have this problem with the cracked skin, or dry skin for that matter). Basically, in my case, the foreskin comes off as being cracked, like chapped lips. Sometimes they will bleed, but not very often. After masturbation, or even just pulling the foreskin back to urinate, it can become inflamed, sticking up a bit and being a pain to pull back. I always wash my penis after sex, and I (almost) always wear a condom when engaging in sex. However, I still end up with the cracked skin, and the inflammation. I have been to the doctor several times, all of which ran STD tests and they all came back negative. Every doctor has recommended circumcision, but I am really against it. So after dealing with it for years I finally broke down and started trying different things, and these are my findings: - First and foremost, always clean it with WARM water. Everyone enjoys hot showers, however the heat will dry out your skin more (including your member). If you use warm water (at least for your penis) it will help with the cracks. Also, use unscented soaps. I recommend dial. I use dial when cleaning piercings and tattoos (as I have many of both, and to answer the next question no, I do not have my member pierced which could attribute to problems). I noticed that after coitus I would use the soap strictly for my member instead of just water, which seemed to help. Also make sure you get all around the penis, including under the foreskin (where it touches the actual organ) all the way down to the scrotum. Not only does it help with the dry skin, it also makes sure you get everything cleaned out before sleeping. This is the same if you decide to sleep with your hand. Just using a Kleenex to wipe everything up is not a suitable solution. You still have to clean it, as semen does like to dry. - Next I recommend using Chapstick, A&E, or any other type of item you would put on dry skin (not lotion). Pretty much if it is OK for your lips it is OK for you penis. You have to make sure you are completely clean before doing it, because if there is any type of dirt, bacteria, fungus, whatever, it will get trapped underneath (I am assuming, seeing how most products for chapped lips require a thick coat). I usually apply it before I go to bed, this way I don't have to worry about it rubbing against my jeans when I walk around, and always having to reapply it every time I take a leak. - Lastly, leave it alone. If you see that you are having the cracks, it is best not to play with it or irritate it in any way. Imagine taking a sock with a hole in it. If you leave the hole alone, its not going to go away, but if you wear the sock the hole will get bigger. This is the same concept. If you notice the cracks are forming and you leave it alone for a few days, then you'll notice they'll go away and you'll have a much better time with your penis. Ultimately, the three things that have kept it under control is to keep it clean, keep it hydrated, and keep an eye on it. This solution works for me most of the time, but I still get cracks from time to time (occasionally getting it to bleed, or at least burn when I urinate if some drips onto the foreskin when I set it back into place). However, I am pretty sure most people do not want to go through a circumcision if they can avoid it. I am one of those people, so I have found a way to manage. I hope this post helps someone. - Maverick P.S. I am not a doctor. Actually, I am far from it. I am just your every day normal guy who happened to get fed up with a problem that no one could solve. I can't promise this will work for anyone else, and to be honest I will probably never come back to this site after I post this. I just hope that it does help out someone, or at least spark some ideas for someone else to build off of. I wish you the best of luck, but don't blame me if your penis falls off (just kidding, but seriously, don't blame me)

Maverick is right. Any doctor who would recommend a circumcision for something as benign and common as this should have his license revoked! I've had this problem every once in a while since I was a teenager (23 now)-- flaky, peeling skin on the foreskin and occasionally the head that sometimes bleeds when I have an erection (it stretches the skin out). Always in dry (usually winter) weather; typically while going longer than usual between showers, and often the day after I've masturbated and not bothered to clean up.

Dry air+moisture....hmmmm....what do you think this could be? a yeast infection? 8-|

Guys, it's the exact same thing that happens with chapped lips. Everytime I have had it, a warm shower gets rid of it. Chapstick or gentle soaps/lotions may do it, too. And if you leave it alone, Maverick is right: more "penis friendly" weather conditions will come around and that skin will soften right up on its own!

Please, please, please don't seriously consider a circumcision for this problem. It happens to a lot of people, and is much easier and less expensively solved than submitting yourself to a circumcision. Or even going on a round of creams/antibiotics. If you're really concerned, see a doctor to make sure it's not an STI. But if he recommends chopping it off-- especially as a first resort-- be VERY skeptical. Doctors like that are what have turned our medical system into a self-serving cash cow. :'( It's natural, common, and honestly not all that bothersome (for me anyway). It'll go away if you do as little as possible to mess with it!

I know the feeling, I'm 49 yrs. old, and have been real dry and everytime I pull the foreskin back its pretty painful, tried nesporin, and vaseline, it just dries on it and makes it worse.

Yes, men can get yeast infections, and yes, circumcised men can get yeast infections, usually from a female who already has the infection.
Foreskin actually helps protect the penis from infections.

If you get water on your hands and handle your private too much,it can get chafed.
I had that problem last night.
Just put suave where your chafed on your private and you will mend.
My private feels better now.
