Sure. A monitored cycle is when you take clomid, and a few days after your last dose you go for a vaginal ultrasound, at which time your uterine lining is measured, and they look for developing follicles on your ovaries. From that they can determine how well your ovaries are responding to clomid (or another fertility med as determined by your doctor).

I'll give you my specifics this (my first) cycle:

Began clomid for 5 days on [progesterone-induced] cycle days 3-8; ultrasound on cycle day 10, at which time they found a bunch of very small follicles not big enough just yet, so I went on another 5 days of clomid on cycle days 10-14; ultrasound cd 17 with larger follicles showing. Another ultrasound cd 22 showed one really big follicle of perfect size. That night I did the ovidrel injection (hcg trigger shot which causes ovulation within 24-36 hours) and the following morning (cd 23) went in for the IUI. Now I'm waiting to have my pregnancy test next week (on cd 37).

So you can see that my doctor found, during this first monitored cycle, that I did respond to clomid, but 2 rounds and not just one, and was able to time insemination accordingly. You don't have to do this with IVFs/IUIs--this is used for timing regular copulation cycles, as well. Obviously it extends what one would consider a normal 28-day cycle, but that's okay.

By the way, that was me. This system is wierd--I logged in, but then it took my reply as guest saying I wasn't logged in. Go figure.

Hi,
I am on clomid for 4 months now, i started with 50mg, now i am on 200 mg. I have irregular periods. So, doctor gives me provera to get my periods and then i take clomid on D5 to D9. Because i have irrgular periods it is hard to find out my ovulation time during the cycle. so doctor suggested me to go with Ultrasound from D-10 to D-18 alternate days to see if there is enough follicles. I started my D-10 ultrasound, now i am going for D-12 ultrasound. Once i reach the 16 to 18 mm as the size of the follicle, doctor will inject me HCG 5,000 to induce ovulation. That night i have to have the intercourse and she believes that there is more chances of getting pregnant.

Please pray for me. I will keep you posted on what is going on.

Thanks,
KK

There are some pharmacies online that you can buy them from but would you really want to risk your baby's future health taking something that may or may not be pure or reliable? I know you're impatient but it's best to get it from a trusted source, don't you agree?

This is KK here again, Last cycle on CD14, my follicle size was 22mm and doctor injected me with HCG 10,000 units for me to ovulate. But last month did not work out for me. But one good thing is with the hcg injection, i got my regular pertiods itself without taking provera this month. So the doctor suggested me to not to take any medicines this month since i got my periods automatically that too on exact 30th day. So, doctor suggested me to take my husband for a semen annlysis just to double check the sperm count and motility. This month i am excited and i left everything in GOD's hands...

Please pray for me and i wish you all baby dust and good luck.

Thanks,
KK

Hi everyone! I am new to this site but thought it might be psychologically helpful to discuss my problems with others who understand. My husband and I have been ttc for 13 months now. We went off the pill last year and did not have regular cycles. We went to countless doctor's appointments in order to regulate my cycle since it had been normal while on birth control. So finally my current doctor who I started seeing in July 2009 checked my blood work, my ovaries, my tubes, my husband's counts and all came back normal. He said he felt like I was not ovulating which was causing all the problems so he started me on 50mg of Clomid which I took Aug. 29-Sept.2 and according to OPK I ovulated Sept. 14 and so we are hoping for good results. The side effects were rough...I had lots of hot flashes, abdominal pain, nausea, moodiness, and headaches. This has been so difficult since we want children so badly but benefits of clomid will outweigh the costs if we get pregnant. I am so scared that we will not be able to conceive for some reason but I am trying to remain positive.

In what percentage of women does the HCG shot work? Last month was my first month trying Chlomid and the hcg shot. How do I know if I'm ovulating? The doctor hasn't done any tests to determine that. How do I know if the hcg shot worked?

I started on 50mg of clomid in Jan and Feb without success. In march, I started with 100mg on on day 13, I had 4 ripe follicles between 18 - 22mm. I took a shot of HCG and had sex with dh that day and 2 days later and still no success. I have decided to take a break and see what happens. Baby dust to all..

I used clomid and hcg injection (one time around) to get pregnant with my daughter. We went home from the hospital after the shot and for three nights we had intercourse at the same time and I rested for for 15mins before getting up. That and prayer gave us our beautiful baby girl
