I had Hemorrhoid surgery 6 days ago and I've never felt anything more painful. I've have my nose done and my breast done. But this surgery is the worst. I'm in terrible fear that the pain won't go away. The worst is when I go to the bathroom. I'm taking stool softeners and so I am on the toilet constantly. It's still painful. I cry and pray Everytime I go that it won't hurt. Than when I stop taking the stool softeners because I'm tired of the diarrhea than I get constipated. However my diet is great. All I eat are salads, and fruit and a little toast to help take the meds so I don't get sick. I'm scared this pain will never go away and it won't heal if I keep going to the bathroom. Any suggestions ???

You poor darling I know what you mean, I hope that you are feeling better now, I suffer a lot too because I have fissures, and I had three operations that made my anus so small that I suffer everyday of my life. so keep on doing what you doing eat well lots of fruits veggies and 2 liters of water every day, that way you'll never have to suffer what i'm suffering, the pain of that operation will go away, but you have to eat properly for the rest of you life. don't forget that. a hug from Grace.

I have undergone Excisional Hemorroidectomy 3 days ago. First night was extremely painful, i nearly fainted when i removed the packing, ( i did it within 4 hours from operation, had no instructions on when to remove ), but then it got better, i was able to walk, sit, and even drive a day after, things had been progressing normally until first bowel movement. I had read that its a scary one, O yea its a scary one guys.

it happened on 3rd day
it was e.x.t.r.e.m.e.l.y painful
i had to dilate manually and extract it manually, it was impossible to pass as it was hardened and it took almost an entire hour of extreme pain endurance to have it done. though i think it was 80%+ passed and not more. I fear of anal stenosis occured to me.

Problem point:
some rectal prolapse occured right after first bowel movement, it is not as beeldy but due to prolapse i am in extreme pain right now. its been two hours since first bowel movement. I am sure the pain is not of the bowel movement, but of the prolapse sticking out of dentate line and being squeezed by sphinctor. Its extremely painful and i am unable to push it in.

searching on net, i have applied topical numbing agent cream , lidocaine (sold as xylocaine), it is of little or no help at all.

Called the doctor but he says its normal, Dont know what ll happen. Help me with some reply if someone knows what n how.

I also have the same problem, it is very embarrassing, especially if you are out and in company. I am due to see a Surgeon this coming Thursday. I hope he/she can help in some way or another.

I had a hemorrhoidectomy 5 months ago. I sitll have too much pain after BM and the pain last for more than 5 hours. all this time I hated too to see doctor again because i was afraid of second surgery. I tried everything during these months but the pain seem to get more worse I decided to go to see doctor because the pain is become unbearable. The doctor said the wound of the surgery not healing. He told me we normally give incision 3 months to heal, but after you took all this 5 months with no progress tha mean you have problem with incision. He gave me Gtn ointment and other cream to speed the healing process. Laxative or softener very important first 2 months follow the surgery.

I'm in the same boat. It's been 12 weeks since my surgery and after a BM I'm in pain for 5-7 hours. I went back to the doctor today she said I have not healed properly on the inside and wants to go back in there to see what's going on. Possibly scrape some scar tissue. Has anyone heard of that? I am horrified to go through ANY procedure right now.

I'm sorry tyo hear this. I was lucky in that I didn't have a problem with pain, just with having a BM. My sdurgery was 15 months ago. Last year I had 3 dilastions under anesthesia for my asnal stenosis. Last fall my dfoctyor said the stenosis was one and I was wide open again. I told him I still couldn't poop without softeners oir laxatives and he was surprtised to hear that. It's still no better after several more months. I see him again in May but wonder if this is as good as it will ever get. It's better than it was a year ago, but every morning I worry if I can have a BM or will have to give myself an enema.

I have the same problem after my surgery. I'm totally afraid to go and ask the doctor if there is anything they can do because my back door is closed to surgery!!! It has been three years and I'm not sure anything is better. Everything irritates.

I get to take more tests to see if I have pelvic floor dysfunction causing my muscles to not contract and relax right. My first test is a voiding proctogram, where they watch me push out barium gel. Fun, right? I'm not giving up yet and luckily can get the money to meet my deductible yet again. Not that it doesn't put a crimp in the budget.

Well I had hemorrhoid surgery 8-12-2014 as a out patient in the Hospital. The whole two weeks after was painful even with meds! No relief!
My surgeon told me to come to his office right now. I had one external and two internal ones. My doctor exam the surgery site and told my husband to take me to the emergency NOW. Come to find out I had a abscess on the inside of my surgery site. Boy I can't tell you how much pain I was in! I was admitted and spent 3 days in the hospital while they pumped me full of meds by IV. Still was in a lot of pain even with pain meds. I would of rather had another baby than what I was going through. I am a very healthy young 64. But this took the cake. Today 9-28-2014 YES still not healed. Still have pain at times more so after BMs. Still taking pain meds. I'm tired of it all! I saw my doctor last on 9-22-2014 his exam that he did I was told that he feels that I am finally starting to heal, but there are still sutures inside and the external one needs to heal more. My next appt. is in November 2014.
Can anyone give hope for my complete recovery?

Sheila

I had an excisional hemorrhoidectomy on 7/31/14. I specifically chose a colorectal surgeon, for fear of developing anal stenosis, which I Now have. I suffer more discomfort now than I did with hemorrhoids, with the constant urge to go, but never being able to fully complete the task. I never evacuate completely, as the effort is too great and too time-consuming. I get about 4 - 5 hours of sleep at night due to the constant need to go. I would gladly trade my stenosis for my hemorrhoids! The literature indicates that if the stenosis is caught "early enough", manual dilation can be an effective treatment. How early is "early enough". I saw my surgeon for a post-op visit one week after my surgery, at which time he scheduled me for my next follow-up visit for 3 months later (one month from now). It puzzles me that with stenosis as a potential complication, why a colorectal surgeon would not schedule the next visit sooner than three months!

Your doctor diagnosed you with stenosis but doesn't want to do anything yet? Did he say he thought it would clear up on its own? I was diasgnosed with stenosis 6 weeks after surgery by a general surgeon. Got the dilators but went to a colon/rectal surgeon a few weeks later and he scheduled dilation under anesthesia right away. For now, take Miralax to keep your stools soft so you dont develop more hemmorhoids. And I'd call the doctor to find out about the 3 month wait. Good luck!

By the way, I added up all my medical expenses over the past 2 years for the complications from my hemorrhoid surgery. I've paid almost $6000 out of pocket. Insurance has paid almost $16,000. The stenosis is gone, I've had physical therapy to relearn how to have a BM and to increase muscke strength in my pelvic floor. I now have a rectocele that I think is currently my biggest problem. I'm prasying that I don't have to get thast surgically repaired because I'm afraid it will get worse yet.
